Are they all that dumb? (managers AND employees)

I saw on the counter of a Family Dollar (cheap cleaning supplies and paper plates) a sign TAPED PERMANENTLY DOWN that read "For serves ring bell"

serves?
I think someone meant service

...and 2 doors down at a White Castle on the big main sign (30 foot one) it read "Now saleing xxxx"

saleing?
I think someone meant selling

My point here is that WHO is proofreading these things? How can they stay up there for people to see, and is NOONE telling them it is spelled wrong?

I don't want to because it gives me a chuckle when I see it.

The ability to spell has slowly been migrating somewhere. Just check out apostrophes. Anywhere.

It comes up in other ways. A recent article I read about hispanic culture in California made the statement that "young, second generation hispanics are often found spicing up their languange with Mexican slang..." In a later issue, I read letters that came in to the editor chastising the writer for using derogatory remarks about spanish-speaking people. No joke.

It's sad that fewer and fewer people care about spelling (and punctuation) these days.

Hell, just look around this message board. It's not that people don't have the resources to do it correctly, they just don't care.

The spelling on this message board is really terrible. Everybody makes mistakes once in a while, but I think a lot of people here simply don't care.

I don't think that anyone on this board cares. Recently, tho, (<--- prime example) I've been trying to get better at doing things correctly. A few months ago, I went to Burger King and pointed out to the manager that her front billboard was gramatically incorrect. I got a free sandwich out of it...
