are these temps right?

I just started overclocking my e5400 with prime 95 v25.9 build 4. It seems to be stressing both cores 99/100%. I'm using the stock cooler with artic silver 5. I haven't touched any voltages just upped the fsb to 251. The multiplyer is 13.5. So I should be running at 3.4ghz correct?

My temps have not gone above 58c on either core.
I'm using Speed fan and Real temp to monitor temps. They both say about the same temps. Strange thing Speedfan says vcore1 voltage is 1.10 and vcore 2 is 1.28.

I have a cheap ass biostar g31 m7-te board that I got with the cpu combo for 100$ shipped. I guess mabe I got a good chip?

What's the highest temperature should I push it 60/65c?

Thanks.

Not bad. Have you tried OCCT. It produces nice little graphs and I think a bit more heat.

Good clock though.

looks very good for the stock cooler. when stress testing, try to stay below 80 C. This is not an ideal operating temperature, but rather my max comfort temp under linx. though really, it is more or less up to you. I would say keep pushing it till either the voltage required for stability is too much or there is too much heat.

If you are on stock voltage, still, you may have a very good chip. Just keep the temps below 80 C when stressing (MB less if you aren't comfortable with that) and Vcore less than 1.4 V(if even. I would try to keep it within safe voltage range.)

And yes, download OCCT and run linpack for the ultimate test!

Thanks guys I'll try OCCT linpack and report back.

Edit: I got an error in 6 min, but my Temps never went above 62c?
My voltage setting on the board only have options for %. I'm gonna up her 5% volts and run again.

With occt and @ 1.36 volts @3.6 ghz temps went to 80c and the test stopped. It didn't error it just got to hot.

But I am dual prime stable at same settings @65c. That occt test is a killer!

I think I'm gonna tinker with it more and mabe see if I can up the fsb voltage if possible? I don't know much about this board.

I think i'll leave it @ 3.6 with 1.36v for day to day use untill I pick up a used Tuniq tower somewwhere.

Just for kicks I tried it @ 275fsb (3.7) and it blue screened. I think the board is holding me back.
I have ddr2 800 memory so that should not be a problem correct?

Thanks again

You need to make sure your memory divider isn't making your memory run into the red.

For instance, if your memory starts out at ddr2 800 speeds on a 200 fsb your memory is running at a 2:1 ratio. (remember ddr2 bus runs 2x io FSB data clock) So when you bump your fsb up to 250, your memory is actually running at 1000, which many ddr2 800 kits can do.

Setting your fsb to 275 and having your memory divider at 2:1 will make your memory run at 1100.

Try setting your memory speed to ddr2 400. Then your memory is running at 1:1, then when you put your fsb to 275 your memory will be running at 550. You really don't get much benefit from running your memory faster than your fsb, but once you figure out your OC, you can bump your divider up then.

for a 200 fsb (400 data clock)

ddr2 400 = 1:1
ddr2 533 = 4:3
ddr2 667 = 5:3
ddr2 800 = 2:1
ddr2 1066 = 8:3

I don't get it? Even though I set it ddr2 667 when I overclock it goes to 890? When at 200 fsb it only gives me 2 options ddr667 and 800. So I set it at 667 but when I overclock to 267fsb (3.6ghz) it dosen't stay at 667 it goes to 890. So I guess my memory is holding me back because of lack of a lower divider? Any higher it crashes (bluescreen). So I don't have the proper divider (ddr2 533 or ddr2 400) to keep my memory speed down? Am I getting this right?

I googled some info for on this board, and heres what this guy said...

"Poor support for 800FSB CPUs without 1:1 CPU:RAM ratio support, must do BSEL mod to 1066FSB to get 1:1"

So should I do the BSEL mod? If I do will I need faster ram anyway?
With 1066 fsb I'll be over 4ghz. How does that work?

Link to semi- review of model g31- m7. Mine is A little different. I have a g31-m7- TE board.

Thanks again guys

Edit: Wow 1066 memory @ 1.8 volts (what my board supports) is 70$ for 4gigs. The prices are going up! I only paid 135$ shipped for the motherboard ,cpu and 4 gigs memory. Mabe I'll just stick @ 3.6. :frown:

If your bios is like my P45 board. In the O.N.E you set the

CPU Frequency Setting to your desired FSB

FSB Bsel to the Highest it can go (ex 1333)

then the

DRAM Frequency to the lowest it can go.

That should give you a 1:1 multiplier.

Edit: I looked up your bios and yeah it's completely different.

Also make sure your PCI clock is set to 100 not Auto.

I doubt the memory is crashing at 890. It's most likely going to take better cooling and more voltage to hit 4ghz.

I purposely used speedfan and realtemp to make sure the temps were right but I just noticed my idle cpu temp in the bios is 47c and speed fan and realtemp have me at 26/28c sitting at my desktop idle? Perhaps they are both wrong and my cpu is running real hot while stressing? Temps do seem a little low at 3.4 ghz with 2.9 volts running prime? 59c? I am using a stock cooler. Is that possible? 27c idle and 59c load?

So between my bios and speedfan its a 20c difference at idle. Add 20c to my 59c prime temps and I'm at 79c! What do you guys think?

That OCCT program had me at 80c in 4/5 min and shut it down.

Just in case I'm leaving her at 3.4 at 2.9 volts till I grab a better cooler.

It probably is the RAM. G31 boards, for whatever reason I cannot fathom, do not have 1:1 support for 200Mhz FSB CPUs.

Yea , It seems my temps are fine. I downloaded every temp monitoring program known to man, and they all say 23/28c idle and 59/60c load.

I guess it the ram......

Thanks guys.
