whats up all, i am running a 3200 939 a64 non overclocked chip on an msi neo2 plat mobo with 1 gig of muskin 3200. the rig is set up in a coolermaster centurian 5 mesh front case with a 92mm (i think thats the size) intake fan and a 120mm exhaust fan. i run a zalman alcu cooler on the cpu and used artic silver 2 for heat compound. my case temp is usually 15 degrees celsius, with an ambient room temp of low 70s. my only concern is that my cpu seems to run a bit hot, idles at 40c according to core center. i feel that with my setup and cpu fan i should be getting much lower temps. the only reason i am concerned with this at all is because i intend on overclocking soon and want some more wiggle room as far as cpu temps. the strange thing about it is, while msi core center gives me readings of around 40 at idle, speed fan usually gives me readings of about 36 at idle while give the same case temps. which one should i believe? do you think my temps are a bit high for my setup? could it be the arctic silver 2 being used instead of the 5?? any input is appreciated.

ummmm...

You'r case temps isn't possible without refrigeration.

15C= 59F

Actual would be no lower that about 24C. (estimated)
I have seen temp readings from MSI boards all over the place.
You might check for a bios update. (sometimes they tweak the way the bios interprets the readings from the thermistors or diodes)

Anyway, even if is correct 40C, is nothing to be at all concerned about.

I had the same problem. Download MBM5 and/or Everest and the latest chipset drivers and you should be good. Corecenter is not accurate at all.

There is a bug with the early version of Core Center where it reports temperatures 4 degrees celsius above what they really are. That's why Speed fan is showing a lower temp. If you upgrade to the latest version of Core Center available on MSI's web site it will give you the right temps.

36C at idle is a perfectly normal temp for your processor at stock speed with stock cooling. Actually, 40C wouldn't be bad either considering you're using stock cooling. Once you start overclocking you'll see that temps don't increase too much until you start applying a lot of voltage to the CPU.

One other thing regarding temps with the K8N NEO2. There is a known bug that causes temps to be reported about 10C higher than they really are after a cold boot. If you do a restart after a cold boot then you'll see the right temps. This is a known issue that is referenced in the forum over at the MSI web site. There's no fix for that yet.

EDIT: Here's the link to the Core Center download:
http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/software/swr/spt_swr_list.php?kind=1
Scroll halfway down the page. It's version 1.7.3.0.
