Are these temps good?

My Athlon 4200 X2 is idling @ 49c. the Asus A8V deluxe is @ 29c. Hard drives are @ 42c. While running PCmark2005 temps will reach 53c. Ran cool & quiet but I experienced sporadic "FREEZES" so I turned it off. If I take the side panel off temps will drop 5-9 degrees c. Would a new case be in order or are they ok based on the following configuration? I am not overclocking and everything is stock.
Thanks

Athlon 4200 X2
Asus A8V Deluxe mobo
1gb ram
ATI AIW 9800 Pro Video Card
(3) Hard Drives
(1) NEC DVD burner
(1) TDK CD Burner
(1) Intake fan lower front of case
(1) Exhaust fan upper back of case

49C at idle with no overclock is high, definitely. What is your room or ambient temp? I am currently idling at 38C with an overclock in an 80F ambient temp. In your sig, list your cooling particulars, are you using the stock fan and stock heat grease?

I sure thought people were getting better results with the stock HSF. You say you only have two case fans?

Sounds high, even with case open, but definitely not fatal..

I would suspect you have an air-flow problem, HSF contact problem or problem with accurate temp readings.

HSF = Zalman 7700
My temp reading comes from a probe inserted into my HS.
I'm only 44 full load at 1.55v and 2.6 g with 4200+. Go to low 30's at default settings...

P.S.

My BIOS temp is totally useless.. It reads 25 -35 higher than my probe temp..

That could definitely be. Try moving the rear of your system further from the wall. If the exhaust is plugged up heat will be retained.

Did you do the proper amount of heat grease, such as the spot and spread technique?

If you do decide on a new case, getting one with a fan and exhaust hole in the top is very effective.

You say you only get a 5-9C drop with the side of the case open? That still sounds too high. Look into the Zalman 7700 or the Thermalright 90-120 series. Arctic Silver 5 helps a bit too.

If your temp is dropping that much by opening the side of the case you have bad airflow. My X2 runs at 51c under full load overclocked to 2.53ghz with the stock heatsink.

QFT....

I run case temp at 24c with an ambient room average of 22c....I idle at 29c and load at 51c with both cores running 100% 24/7.....

I idle at 41c overclocked to 2.55GHz with my Winnie 3200+. At load I top out at 54c. So, those temps seem a bit too high.

Just curios. My readings are comming from Asus probe. These are taken from the bios? Can these readings be considered acurate? Where would the CPU probe on the ASUS mobo be located? Could the location be giving a higher reading than others are reporting?

Problem is who knows....MObo temps vary from board to board and are calibrated by the board...who knows if they are doing that right, either....

I mean my temps can be off too, but consider the air in my case exhausting is as cool as air in room i think my sys temps look right...The HSF is barely detectable to the touch at idle and luke warm at best with 24/7 loading....I think mine is pretty close to spot on...

The CPU temp should be coming from the temp sensor inside the CPU.. It is just a matter of the BIOS being calibrated to give an accurate reading.. Many MOBO's are notorious for doing a bad job of this.

And there is your problem, friend.

Use something like Smart Guardian or Motherboard Monitor to check. ASUS is notorious for being inaccurate.

I powered down the system, unplugged and discharged it. Felt the stock HS and copper tubing. Was almost cool to the touch. Ram was warm to the touch, but only at the slot connection. Could this mean I am getting a bad reading? Also temp at the intake (front) was 82F. Temp at exhaust was 92F.

If your temps are reporting high, and your heatsink is cool to the touch..it's most likely not making proper contact...

ALTHOUGH they are high, they are CERTAINLY at an operational level. I think there is a problem with your motherboard.

Personally I dont like it...never had....It seems like it takes some tweaking with sometimes to get the right sensor....I use speedfan as it seems to detect things more on its own....

The reason I dont trust the 27c is that with the 80f you have in your room that very well could be your system temp and not the cpu...go ahead and load it and it should go up to about mid 40's to low 50's normally with both cores fully loaded...

82f as mentioned aerlier is ~27-28cc!!!! If you have a room temp of 80f I would expect idling in the range of 3-4c higher then that with average to adequate case cooling which means you should have a cpu idle temp like 32c......and loading definitely to near 50c with stock cooling...
