Are These Speeds Normal for 850 Evo?

Just wanting to make sure that the speeds I am getting with the new SSD I bought just two days back, 850 Evo 500 GB, is in normal territory or not. Please see the attachment. The test was done right out of the box, have not installed anything from the provided CD.

I have installed the Magician app, which option should I select under this OS Optimisation menu, Max reliability, performance or capacity?

Thanks. I kept reading tons of comments from different places and I think I am better off with the Samsung Magician software. One of the main reason to install the app was to obviously enable Rapid Mode but now as I see that Rapid Mode isn't particularly good! Don't know!

Yeah, Rapid Mode is basically useless in the real world, and unsafe. It's only for "cheating" benchmarks, so users can show off how "fast" their SSD RAM is.

Hmm, didn't know Samsung's length of "cheating benchmarks" extended to SSDs too, always disabled the bloody DVFS thing in their phones, now time to uninstall Magician.

Thanks guys.

I have one query, do I have the SSD (marked with Red) installed in the correct SATA port? I couldn't differentiate the differences between these ports. Kindly see the photo if possible. What are the differences between these 56, 34 and SATA Express slots? Motherboard manual doesn't say much!

What motherboard is this exactly?
Looks like you hooked it up to the SATA express ports, which won't harm performance. Those are made to be backward compatible with SATA III.

It is the Asus Z170 Pro Gaming one. I have searched on Google with every possible keywords, but I can't find any details about these different SATA ports. Those numbers, 56, 34 etc. should mean something.

There's nothing wrong with keeping magician installed. I disable it at startup and only run it when I want to check the health of my SSDs, check their connection status (the 950 pro sometimes gets on at pcie 2.0 speeds, bleh), check for firmware updates, etc.

Its still a nice tool even if you're not going to use RAPID.

The loading time after logging into Windows is really long for me. Its taking almost 30 seconds to load everything, where from other reviews I see that it takes less than half time of that! Maybe startup items are taking long time for me? Or is there something else?

Have a look at this video if possible. You will see that I hit enter after typing in my password around 42 second mark, and then when everything is loaded its at around 1:06 mark, so almost 25 seconds to load everything! And this is a fully fresh Windows installation with almost no heavy apps installed so far!

A lot of Windows loading time depends on what you are loading, and, what desktop icons are present. All of that is tied to the Registry. Frankly, I am very happy with anything under a minute. I have 4 items that load in the Notification area, and 10 items in the quick launch area. Of greater importance to me is application convenience. For me a fresh install of Windows is basically useless.

Yeah, thanks. I am over it now. I am certain that Windows 10 is loading something or whatever. Cause in last 15 mins I did everything I found on internet, that is from disconnecting other drives, to checking whether my SSD is correctly aligned and whatnot, nothing changes this, this is like a fixed 23-24 seconds time to load everything from the entering password part. It only bothers me because when I used the cheap Lenovo i3 laptop, with 750 Evo, I quite well remember that it used to take around 12 seconds to finish loading everything, little annoying and questionable when that time gets doubled. However back then I used an OS which was stable as rock named as Windows Seven, I just have no idea why I am still on Ten anyway, whatever.

Are you logging in with a local account or the Redmond data-miner's cloud account?

When I was using Win10 for unpaid M$ beta testing, found using a local account and turning off as much Cortanamination as possible improved boot times. Usually under 15 seconds on a X5660 with a lowly M500.

Could also be a driver that is taking Win10's attention away from it's primary data-mining purpose. No worries tho, the next Win10 Helliversary update will likely make it worse.

I've upgraded all my Win 10 systems to Win 7 - have faster boot times, lower dpc latency, no driver conflicts, less spyware, no playschool design junk. And my sex life is better too. 😛

Have concluded that Win 10 is the best Windows upgrade yet. For Microsoft. Not so much for me.

I don't know what is Redmond data-miner's account mate! I am using a local account obviously, don't even have or want to have an MS account.

The SOLE reason for me to bear these nuisances of Windows 10 is GAMING, that's all. I myself am unable to see much difference but almost everyone says that Win 10 is better than Win 7 for gaming, that is without DX12 even.

The Microsoft (data-mining) account is the type Microsoft prefers. We users prefer local accounts.

Sounds like you need better reasons. And not everyone says gaming is improved on 10 - I don't. 😀

For me, system stability without unrequested spyware/malware with forced driver updates is more important than a few extra fps in a game. But, I use my systems primarily for work, not play.
