I bought an audi A6 2000, with high miles, I got it inspected by a mechanic and he said everything is fine except for the breaks which run for about 800 dollars. Ok, I did the brakes, then it started making noise, it was an expensive repair, they said they needed to change the timing belt ($1,500). Another noise started, a clicking noise in the back right, at first they said it was a leaky hose, then they still heard the noise and said it was a damaged boot or something like that in the rear axle, this costs another $1,500, have I been scammed by these people? Is there anything I can do?

Take your receipts and estimates to another garage or dealership and get a second option. Then you will know if they are scamming you or not.

agreed. 1500 for a FRICKEN TIMING BELT!? You have got to be kidding me!

EDIT: hahahaha seems i wasn't the only one with this thought. 😀

It's your fault for buying an A6. Nice cars but about as reliable as a Harley. Better buy another car for the times this one is in the shop.

I have to admit the parts for this car are extremely expensive. I thought that timing belts were that expensive, on my former car, a honda civic, the timing belt cost 500 dollars. How much should it have cost (How much would you pay)?

$20 for the belt. I'd do the rest

Are you fvcking kidding me??? Do audi parts cost more or something, or did I pay them 1,480 bucks for a couple hour's work?

Wow, a used Audi having problems? Whod've thought? 🙂

You're getting pretty ripped off though dude. If you're not in the know about cars find someone who does that won't be making money off of you to get advice from. This mechanic sounds like a crook.

Yes you did, I charge $300 for a timing belt replacement including the cost of parts, on certain domestic vehicles I charge $150.

After this I'm not going to this guy anymore, I hope I won't have to go to any guy. My biggest problem was finding a place that knows audis, also I don't think I mentioned that this was done by an audi dealer. I guess I'll be doing some research...I seriously am beggining to hate mechanics, it's so hard to find an honest person nowadays, my last guy died a few years ago RIP (damn ciggarettes!)...
