Are these frame rates good for a 9700Pro? In UT2003

Hi,
I just purchased a Sapphire 9700PRO, although the heatsink is an ATI one w/ the ATI label.
Anyway, ive been saving up for it for quite a while, and i wondered if i was getting what i should be frame rate wise.

Here are my results using HardOCPs UT2003 Benchmark Program.
1280x1024 High Detail Tests.
The frame rates are the averages.

DM-Antalus - 101fps
DOM-Suntemple - 105fps
DM- Phobos2 - 95fps
Dm-Inferno - 86fps
CTF-Face3 - 98fps
CTF-Citadel - 70fps
DM-Asbestos - 118fps

I tested with 3DMark2001 but got only 8400 3DMarks, so i thought, 3D Mark aint that reliable anyway, so i tested in UT2003.

Thanks in advance

Well you are over 60 fps in all catagories dont see anything wrong. You can even drop to 40fps and its not like your eyes can see the difference. Now that I said that watch me get attacked for saying that 40 fps wont be noticable.;)

So i should just ignore the 3D Mark Disastor?
I Upgraded it from a GF3Ti200@Ti500 w/very old "19 CRT to a 9700PRO w/ Hitachi TFT.
Did i do this right(read below)
1) Uninstall Video Card from system propeties.
2) Uninstall Video Drivers
3) Search HDs for nVidia Files, and delete
4) Search Registary for nVidia references, and delete.
5) Switch off PC, take of GF3, put in 9700PRO, connect power cable.
6) Switch on, revert CPU back to stock speeds (cos 9700 card dont like FSB`s over 70mhz aparently)
7) Put AGP Arpeture to ATI Reccommended (128mb) was 256mb.
8) Install ATI Drivers, then Control Panel.

Anything else. Prehaps a program to completely rid my system of nVidia(just in case i missed anything)

Hmm what I did from going from Nvidia to ATI was redo the OS. But you can try reg cleaner to make sure you did clean the registry completely. As for your scores I cant get the page up to see your PC specs I will say this I get 13200+ with my system running a P4 at 115 fsb with the Radeon 9700 pro not overclocked. THe system seems VERY picky when doing the drivers and the control panel, I reboot everytime I remove something.

I remove the drivers and reboot

Remove the control panel reboot

Run reg cleaner remove anything that says ATI

Then I install the drivers reboot

Then install the control panel

Make sure you dont remove DAO during driver installation.

Doing the OS over might be time consuming but its the only %100 way to start from a clean slate.

Reg Cleaner

I tested with 3DMark2001 but got only 8400 3DMarks.
I highly suggest you switch to a much better DDR motherboard than your current one with PC133 memory.

My 9700pro scored 15800 with 3dmarks2001se with A7N8X. Your CPU and especially Video card are severely bottlenecked by your MB and Memory. Change to a Nforce2 board with 256MB pc2100 ddr will almost ensure you a 13000+ performance. Old Nvidia driver may affect you a little, but only within 200 points at most.

KT7A - Raid + 768MB PC133 <=> $100 Nforce2 board + $40 256MB PC2100 DDR

will make you feel totally different. :)

Hi again. Ive just had to re-install windows completely(formatted c:) cos of some problems, i was goind to do it weekend anyway.
anyway, ive installed the ATI Drivers off the CD that came with the card, and im just about to DL the latest off the ATI Website.
I would upgrade to a DDR baced Mobo, but ive just bloan £700 on a 9700PRO & 17" TFT Hitachi Monitor(yes the 16ms on, mmmm) So until at least may, i wont have the money, and even then, it`ll probably be october till i have the money for a new mobo&ddr.

All is was wondering originally, was if it was a good score for my system(in ut2003).

40fps is tolerable, but I'd hardly say anything above it isn't noticeable. Especially if you see something 40fps next to something that's 80. You'll be able to tell which is which pretty readily.

BMW330ci, this monitor rocks.
Ive reclaimed my desk.
Image Quality with DVI = very good.
Image quality with DVI & 9700PRO = Unbelieveable
I cant stress enough how good this monitor is. Sure it cost alot compared to the equilivent CRT but, the extra room on your desk will certainly make up for it.
I cant notice any ghosting/lag/trailing. at all.
Colour reproduction is very good as well.

In case you didnt guess, im very very pleased with my purchase.

Noid,
something is wrong with your first three benchmarks.
There is no way you get same FPS or higher FSP @1600x1200 than @1024X768
Your other benchmarks seems inline with mine. :)

yup ,,, your right
Made my edit.

I know how that happened now too. That was my first run with that tool and it started up windowed. I didnt know better. lol.
It was a direct cut and paste from the results file as you can tell.

sorry for the confusion

anyway ... it didnt do it again ... fixed now by itself ... lol

I need to finish playing that game ... some of those maps I havent seen or played ...

Your rig running 11.5 x 192 ? on a 2400? thats a nice chip
I hope to get my PS fixed soon ... maybe I can get 12 to stablize : )

BoomAm :::

those numbers are kinda low on 3dMArk .. I agree...

But the UT numbers look good for 1533 !

What Catalyst drivers are you using?

What are the latest drivers?, excluding Catalyst 3.0 & DX9. Where can i get them as well.

Ive just downloaded the Catalyst 2.4 and the latest control panel from rage3d.com
They fix my problem in RalliSport Challenge.
But when i have hardware accelleration enabled in PowerDVD, i get a garbled screan. But when its off, the DVD image is fine.
No biggy but, i would prefer it to work. Windows crashes as well after a min in powerdvd(w/ hardware acceleration), when reboots, and says the the cause of the crash is the 9700/9500 series drivers.

Hi,
Ive retested 3D Mark, and a now get a whopping score of 10287.
What a difference a new installation of windows makes.
Ive checked the online result browser, and its about 10% behind a DDR memory baced system, which seems about right, cos DDR is suppost to be 10% faster than SDR.

What are the Omega drivers? Ive heard of them, but wasnt quite sure what the difference was.
Also, Which Catalyst version is best?
Do i need DX9 for Catalyst 3.0?

Have you lot any idea about why i get corrupted DVD display when hardware accelleration is on?
Do you think that its just a driver problem, and if the latest drivers dont fix it, then a future driver revision will?

You will definitely get a lot higher scores if you upgraded your CPU. The 9700 is a very powerful GPU so a powerful CPU is needed. Wait until socket A is streched to it's max and buy the fastest one you can for your motherboard. You will notice a good increase in speed.

My CPU will run OC`d. I can OC it to XP1900 on my KT7A-RAID Mobo.
The problem is, that then the AGP speed is 70mhz, and ive heard that radeon cards dont like AGP Speeds above normal.
The KT7A-RAID doesnt do AGP/PCI speed locking before you suggest that.
The Chip will do XP2000, but i need 2v throught it to make it run stable. My Mobo only does up to 1.825v.

Omega drivers are just drivers modified by the people that make them. According to people that use them they work better for overall gaming, but some say benchmarks are a little lower using them. As for Dx9 you can use that with any drivers from ATI or Omega 2.4 to 3.0. If you do dl Dx9 then your gonna have to get the 330 build for 3DMark to run with Dx9. Driver are a trial and error thing you just have to try them to see how they perform for you. I am glad you did redo your OS too me thats the best way to go, you always get the best scores in benching after doing a fresh OS install. You also start with a clean slate no driver residue sitting around hiding in your system.

Hi again.
It seems to run fine at XP1900 speeds. But for a few extra frames & 5*c more heat, its not worth it, so i`ll clock it back to normal for now.
XP1800@Stock = 10287 3D Marks 2001
XP1800@XP1900 = 10628 3D Marks 2001
