I'm using a

P4 1.5Ghz
384MB Ram
ASUS p4T
Elsa Gladiac Ultra @ default speeds

Q3 1.27G Demo 127 1024x768x32 everything maxed 91fps.

Does that seem normal to you guys? it seems a bit low to me.

Hmm...yea maybe a bit low, yes. My V5/Tbird 800 gets around 70 or 80, so u should be doing better than that.

OC your ultra. Most can get 500mhz memory speed and something like 350 core I think (not so sure about the core... maybe 400). The memory will be the most important though, because it will improve your bandwidth, which in most cases is what limits most video cards these days.

no it's something else. my quake3 maxes at 91 also. there is something holding holding it down. make sure vsync is off in your driver settings (control panel/display/settings/advanced/geforce/additional/opengl). set it to always off. there must be some max fps command in quake because ive seen it hold at 91 on many puters. i assume you mean it's at 91 pretty steadily.

who cares? if you can tell the difference between 91 fps and 130 fps while playing, you need to put the mouse down and get outside for awhile. Don't be afraid of that big bright thing called the sun, it wont hurt you.

Type "com_maxfps 200" in your console and see if that helps.

chuckieland,

You are correct in saying 40fps is about the max that the human eye can see. Some will say 60fps, but it is somewhere between 30-60. However, in many computer games the frames will not stay consistant enough and will dip down below 20fps at times, even when a benchmark shows 35 or 40fps. For this reason, getting a benchmark of 90+fps in Quake3 shows that your machine will probably, under most circumstances not have huge frame drops in most games. If there is a drop, it probably won't go much below 50 or so. Much of this has to do with the type of video card, driver used, RAM, and CPU also.

This is really weird now guys. I just disabled Dynamic lights, ejecting brass, and marks on walls and re enabled them my fps in 800x600 went from like 109 to 135? What gives? Something is screwy here. Also without thouse 3 options I get 160fps but with them on I get 135? I don't undersand the huge peformace hit @ 800x600 when in 1024x768 I get like 107 without the 3 and 95 with?

One more thing I can't stand anything below say 80fps if it starts to dip under that I can notice the game starting to freez. You guys keep saying the human eye can't see more than 30-40 but I do notice the diffrence from 80 to 100 and 100 to 250.
