Are these Duron 1.1GHz temps ok?

I have an AMD Duron 1.1GHz on an ECS K7S5A. Motherboard Monitor tells me that the case temp is 36 degrees celcius, and that the CPU temp is 55 degrees. Does this sound ok? Should I add more fans to the case?

Btw, I'm running the system on kinda medium load with OE, Opera and a few system apps open.

TIA for any help :)

Yeah, those temps are decent. They're not great, but they're good enough that your system should be fine.

If your room temp is above 90 and you are running a stock hsf, those temps are decent :)

Thanks.

And the temp under max CPU load (using SETI@Home) is about 63/64 degrees - is this still ok? I've heard that the Athlons/Durons are in the danger area when they hit the 70s; is this correct? Just would help to know for future reference :)

I think I'll be getting some new fans anyways.

I personally think those temps are pretty bad. What HSF are you using? I suggest you get a svc gc-68 or something along those lines. It cost only $6 + shipping and those temps will come down. You may want to also invest in some case fans. Maybe install a system blower to bring the case temp down. I personally like to stay below 53c under full load. Bringing the case temp down will also lower the CPU temp so at least add some fans or a system blower.

I've got a TaiSol HSF - it's AMD approved too! The joke is that I was getting lower temps on my cheapo HSF that I bust :( I only have the HSF at the moment, no case fans. I shall get some today probs.

When does the CPU temp become dangerous for an Athlon?

64 odd is rather hot (for external temps) ,I run SETI too (could you guess;)) on a Duron 1.1GHz@1.2GHz ,using the thermal diode I get CPU temps in the low 60's in hot weather ,but bare in mind that is internal cpu temp .The external temp doesn't go above the low 50's ,this is with the case cover off (haven't fitted a case fan yet).

Is your CPU temp measured externally or internally?

Btw are you in a SETI team? (is your SETI name teknodudesp?)

I'm not sure if it's measured internally or externally on the CPU...I think inside, but I'll see if I can find out. I've just ordered 2 case fans, that should help :) Thanks for your help everyone.

Thinking about it only a handful of new Ath m/brds use the thermal diode ,I know the Asus A7V333 & Soltek 75DRV5 do ,there maybe a few others but I don't remember off hand.
I would guess your board uses the external thermister in the CPU socket beneath the cpu.
If you have no case fans at all then you definitley want to add at least 1 !
As long as your 2 new fans are setup right you should see a drop of about 10C in case & CPU temps :)

Ok, thanks. I'll see what difference the fans make tomorrow - hopefully a big temp reduction! :)
