Are these components a good choice?

Well, after some fine tuning, this is what I have come up with for my system. Is it compatible? Is the memory compatible with the motherboard I have chosen?

Also, I was wanting to know what you guys do to protect the components from getting damaged by static electricity while you are assemblinb. Well, any help is greatly appreciated.

It all looks compatible, your memory will work on your motherboard but won't run at full speed because of your processor.

Your memory can do 400mhz and it will run at 333Mhz with Athlon XP Barton.

You shouldn't go for Athlon XP, it's inferior generation of processors, either go with Pentium 4 Prescott or Athlon 64.

Assemble the computer on non conductive sufrace like wood.

Also remember to put the plastic screws before installing the motherboard on to the case, Install the motherboard directly on the case will cause it to short circuit.

dont listen to that fvcktard.

looks pretty good.

id change that ram to mushkin 3200 and save a few bucks.

drop that mobo to the shuttle AN35N-Ultra and save about 30 bucks, unless you need all of those features.

change the vid card to the 5900XT, or save up a few more bucks and spring for the 9800pro. both cards eat the 9600XT for breakfast.

and i think anti static wrist bands are a waste of money...IMO 😉

Are you looking to overclock?

The Kingston RAM is fine, but I have more personal experience with the Mushkin Basic and have that running on my NF7-S with a 2500+ @ 3200+.

I second nick1985's comment on going with a 9800 Pro... the 128MB versions are ~$200, the 256MB, ~$280.

No need to waste the $$ on an athlon 64 and a P4 is Definitley not a better bang for your buck. You'll be happy w/ that system but you don't need the anti-static strap. Just ground yourself regularly and before you start on something metal attached to the ground like a metal doorframe or a bare metal faucet.
