Interesting, what was the update?

Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB972270)
A security issue has been identified that could allow an unauthenticated remote attacker to compromise your system and gain control over it. You can help protect your system by installing this update from Microsoft. After you install this update, you may have to restart your system.

I dont really see how that could cause the prob but before it installed I had never had a prob with resuming from sleep.

okay today it locked up a bit coming out of standby. I experimented quite a bit with this over the last 2 days and the problems only occur when in resuming from sleep after more than 4 hours or so. if I use sleep for around 4 hours or less it resumes just fine.

the odd thing is that all 3 times it has acted up after coming out of standby it has done it in a completely different way. first time was just infinite reboots, second time the fans just started racing and then today it appear to be fine but the computer itself froze for about 30 seconds.

its driving me nuts worrying about.

for sanity's sake, you can disable sleep all-together and do a complete shutdown to save power! that's what i do. :)

well I could also just get rid of the computer an buy a console. lol. I like using sleep and I really want to figure out what is causing this. it just started out of the blue and I cant track down the cause. I think I will go back to all stock settings and see what happens next.

well at stock settings it comes out of sleep just fine. if overclocked it will do something screwy every time I come out of sleep if it has been asleep more than 4 or 5 hours.

I just dont get it because my system was perfectly stable for weeks and passes Prime95 and IBT just fine along with having zero issues for gaming. if my system is having trouble resuming from sleep while being overclocked then why did it take several weeks for the problem to occur?
