Are these bench marks right?

Hi all. I recently completed my P4 rig. You can check my main system in my rigs but it is basically a P4 1.6a with 512megs ram and a GF3 Ti200. When I run 3dmark2001se at 1024x768x32, triple frame buffer, 32bit texture format, HW t&l. In WinME I get around 4500 and in WinXP I get around 5500. Are these numbers typical? Thanks. BTW, I dont OC the card.

Sounds about right. You must realize you basicly have a BMW 540i with 80 series tires on it (80% of tire is on the 'walls', not the actual tred).....video card being the bottleneck...

interestin..i get 6300 with my non o'ced Ti200 and 1.4GhzTBird in XP..this is with the 28.32s..wat drivers r u using??

Yeah those benches are way off i have a 1.4 thunderbird with 256ddr and a geforce 2 Ti i get +5000 sometimes My card is overcloclocked a little bit but not alot. Id say with a ge force 3 you sholud not be any where near 4000 with that card. something must be wrong.

I am using the same, 28.32, drivers. I wonder what the heck is off. I get much better scores in winXP, by about a 1000.

Well, your biggest bandwidth problem on that system is your PC133 memory. P4's like memory b/w and PC133mhz just isn't quite enough.

But, I think you should make sure that you have turned of Direct3D vertical sync off in the advanced properties of your video driver.

Other than that, can't think of much to try.

I personally get 9100+ with my GF3 Ti200 and my 1.6a@2.4.

<< turned of Direct3D vertical sync off in the advanced properties of your video driver >>

I'll give that a shot.

<< P4's like memory b/w and PC133mhz just isn't quite enough >>

True, but uts a P4 1.6a and I dont think its really hit the memory bottleneck yet, and if it has its probably only 5% at most may10%.
Thankls for the tip, i'll see if it helps.

No...I think it is the pc133...it neuters the p4 system...MOst pc133 is insufficient for tbird and XP's, hence all the ddr platforms kt266, kt266a, kt333, ali magik, sis6635, sis735, etc...

One thing to also remember is this is only a 1.6ghz p4...The 1.4tbird in reviews held it own against the 1.8p4 willamette. Eventhough this is a 1.6 northwood it is not enough gain over p41.6 willamette to make it better then the 1.8ghz p4..,.therefore I expect a tbird to do better. Then ask those guys if they were running ddr and I bet the answer is yes....even conservative ddr made a 10-15 percent difference in performance....

also with the winxp issue: The drivers you are using are optimised for winxp. Then throw in that winxp does a much better job of memory and program management. It is likely with that quite full computer you have that winme is just not managing the system memory and program applications, and therefor they are stealing the bandwidth you have little of anyway...

I feel these score are right for this system at default...

Do your games work??? That is all that matters...

Get a board with ability to use rdram or ddr and then you will see how a better memory subsytem will help the p4 deliver...

<< Oyeve, is this system overclocked to 2 ghz when you are doing your tests like you have listed in your systems? >>

No, when I run the benches I leave the sstem at its default.

And Duvie, I guess you are right, as long as my games run 🙂. They run fine. Its just that I look at mags with systems from last year coming away with higher scores. I get jealous sometimes. 🙂

I do plan on getting a more capable MOBO the next time I upgrade the chip. I got the Abit bl7 1. because it was free 2. I already had tons of really good pc133 memory and 3.I figured its only a P4 1.6a and when I do decide to get a 2.XX or higher than I will get a better mobo.

Thanks for all the input guys, it's appreciated.
