Are these AthlonMP's Desktop Palomino's??

Or if not what will the difference be when they release the desktop version (August?)

Can they be used in a DDR board?

How much more $ are they than a thunderbird 1.4?

I thought they weren't supposed to be out for months?

I have a 1.4 tbird on order for the end of the week, should I changei t for one of these, Im confused?!

Don't ya think it's a bit odd that someone doesn't already have one? Or that we haven't seen any reviews of them as a standalone cpu in a standard motherboard?

no, becuase there ARE such things as NDA's..

people don't appear to be salivating at the next AMD CPU, becuase they've already seen it in Dual configuration waste a Dual P4 in many cases (probably about half or so). so, we know what to expect!

Why choose a more expensive 1.2pal over a 1.4tbird? Just because it runs cooler? Won't the 1400 bird be faster? and more mhz per $?

What will the Athlon MP be upto when the desktop version comes out, 1.4? And then the desktop starts at 1.5?

I think these are just starting to hit the retail channel, and they are probably going fast. Initial yields could also be low I suppose. I did just come across this thread though.

I think that the Palominos are faster clock for clock.

Also, the current Thunderbird cores are hitting the end of their lifespan, and the Palamino's are just starting...

:-0

my bad, I forgot that you could only GET an AthlonMP recently.. I mean, people are only NOW recieving them after ordering them..

No offence but that means exactly nothing?

If your not using MP surely a tbird is a much better choice? Am I right to say a 1.4bird is faster than a 1.2pal? And cheaper?

I don't understand y someone would choose a 1.2pal over a 1.4bird, amd wouldn't sell any 1.4birds otherwise?

I thought in anand review he did in fact test the 1.2mp as a solo and in many appz it was beating the new 1.4tbird...This I thought was mentioned to be showing the hardware prefetching of the palomino in action...

So I believe the answer is yes, yes, and yes!!!

It is a palomino, It has been tested, and yes it will run solo...

I would like to hear the heat benefits of the Palomino in both idle and full load mode...

I believe the desktop version will premier at higher level but generally just a marketing certification to say it is dual capable eventhough anandtech speculated or knows the tbird core and duron core are currnetly capable as well...

None taken..🙂 Let me clarify. I meant that if you were building a high-end system now, and were not going to upgrade again for awhile, it makes sense to get the newest generation of CPU's if possible. That's not to say a 1.4ghz "regular" Thunderbird/DDR setup wouldn't be nice as well. For instance, I wouldn't suggest an MP if you were going with an SDRAM setup because most of the improvements are meant to better utilize the bandwith that DDR provides. The 1.4ghz Thunderbird most likely will be the last Athlon released based on the current thunderbird core. The Palamino core will most likely take over as the new standard for the future CPU's. Also, if you do not overclock, then a 1.4ghz would be the way to go. The reason why you would want it is because clock for clock, it's faster than a regular Tbird.
