Are ThermalTake Memory Coolers Worth It?

I'm the proud owner of 512 MB of Crucial registered ECC PC2100 and I was wondering if I should invest in coolers for my memory. I plan to take these DIMMs up to a maximum of 166 MHz.

The two DIMMs currently in the system I'm using now are PC133 CAS 3 running at 100 MHz CAS 2, and one of the stickers on each stick which is thermally sensitive is going black with heat (even at those relatively low settings). I didn't think they were getting that hot (they just feel a bit warm to the touch) so I hadn't considered RAM cooling until now.

Any thoughts?

I think they're worth around 2 degrees... hmmm... dunno really... i just used the heatspreader since it came with the ramsinks. :)

You won't need them unless you're doing massive overclocking of the RAM, but it sounds like you are, so they may be a wise investment.

Hmmm... two coolers will run me $28 CDN, so if it's a matter of stable overclocking it seems worth it.

Thanks.

You'll only be able to use the heatspreaders, since you want to use 2 sticks of RAM. There's no room for the heatsinks. IMO, heatspreaders suck. They're a flat piece of aluminum, just barely increasing the surface area... I can live without them. I got some of the stock blue ones for my bro's KT7E to match... they don't do jack sh!t, and they require you to void your RAM's warranty (to get the best results). The 2*C decrease doesnt justify the cost or the loss of warranty.
