Are there usually a lot of kittens born this time of year?

Just seems like a lot of kitten threads here lately, mostly around 4 weeks old. I have 4 week old kittens living behind my house right now.

On a related note, how does the mother usually react when you take her kittens away? They seem very protective of their kittens, but at the same time you don't really see cats roaming in packs, so they must part ways at some point. I don't want to traumatize the poor mother.

I live in a University town. Dumbass students who are "cat lovers" like to dump their cats this time of year - guess they don't want to take them home. Sureeeeeeeee... your indoor cat just LOVES to be free!!!
