I currently have the Logitech Z2300that I kinda regret buying. It was on sale and I got a good price on them but they have almost no midrange.

I might snag the INSIGNIA for surrounds ... is there a way to mount them on the wall ... if not ... any advice on how to jerryrig a mount for it ?

I have to admit...I bought a pair of labtec 2.1 's .....The sound that came out of these little things are great. At 50$ or less....it was worth it.

You can get decent midrange for $100 if you DIY. Getting decent bass along with decent midrange for $100, DIY, is quite a bit tougher.

DIY is a waste of time with a budget of 100.00. Save yourself the hassle, and use that time to make extra money for better upgrades 😀

I think the Altec 4121, 2.1 system is pretty musical for the money (may have to ease off on the bass a bit). You should be able to get some idea at your nearest BestBuy (they usually have a set out where you can hear them. BestBuy has them for $60. straight up (means no rebates) this week.

DIY has never been about time saving.

nope

look at the klipsch ifi's, those are the closest, they have nice 3.5" mid range drivers, thats pretty big for computer speakers. and its what is needed. costs more, but well, you already know how spending not enough can be money wasted, better to save up for the one that won't dissapoint.

heh ouch they still make that soundworks, crazy. i bought one years ago. not that it had great midrange, it was good for its time which was...6+? years ago. but its bass was weak, and the sats were rather harsh sounding. but it was good compared to the really pathetic competition of the time.

I have the X-230's, not familair with the Z's, all i know is they are much more $$
I have onboard sound, SRS is on but limited on the sliders, and use Nvidia Mixer to add some reverb using the Environment setting.... Coming from a hi-fi background I totally am amazed with the sound that eminates for the dollar spent.....have u set it up properly?
Place the sub infront of you, under your desk....the bass/mid sound should seem like its coming from your satelites....
ohh and just another thing, have u given them time to run in yet 😕
