As we all know, spyware was the savior of the consumer level IT industry (along with wireless networking) for a couple of years there. As I don't yet have Vista, I'm wondering if it has the same issues?

Vista can be infected by some stuff, if that's what you're asking. Never underestimate a determined PC user with access to an Admin account :evil:
Tangentially, I recall from the Microsoft Security Intelligence Report that the Malicious Software Removal Tool is typically detecting malware on 250% as many WinXP SP2 systems as on Vista systems (normalized results). So it's an improvement, anyhow. I could wish for much better detection rates by Windows Defender, but thankfully that's not the main attraction in Vista.
