Are there some foods that you can't live without?

For the last couple months, I had been feeling fuzzy brained. The sort of thing where information was going through my brain but wasn't being retained or processed at maximum capacity. Maybe I'd be listening to a professor and he'd throw out a whole list of facts, and I wasn't catching all of it. Subtle things like that, small enough that I just figured I wasn't getting enough sleep or was under stress.

A couple days ago, I was feeling this more so that usual, and my sleep pattern was OK, so I decided to play around with my diet and see what happened. I'm not a particularly bad eater; I don't eat sweets/soda and I try to stick to stuff like pasta and sandwiches. But I noticed I didn't eat much fruit, so decided I'd start by eating 2 apples each day.

Result? Within two days, I'm feeling much more 'with it' and mentally sharp. Yah!

Anyway, anyone notice stuff like this in their own diet? Recommendations?

CLIFF: Felt bad, ate apple, now good!!

I think I read somewhere that you can get all your essential vitamins and minerals from eating corn and beans.

I always try to eat at least 2 fruits a day. I eat a banana for or with breakfast every morning.

milk from a woman.

I've tried a no Dr. Pepper or Cactus Cooler diet. Needless to say that didn't last very long. For some reason I enjoy a Dr. Pepper with a pizza more than a beer.

There is a HELL of a lot more to nutrition than the essential vitamins and minerals.

Not a specific food, but spice. I always have a bottle of crushed red pepper to drench on anything I eat... if I don't get spice in my food, I'll be bored with whatever I'm eating, and won't be able to function as well mentally.

Yup, for starters Vitamin A is only fat soluble, you need fats in your diet to absorb and utilize vitamin A. I call shens.

Anyway with me, I haven't really been able to tell the difference in what I eat to how I feel mentally. Other than when I eat something that makes my stomach/digestion track unhappy. (which are numerous)

Everyone in my family has stomach problems. My aunts/uncles have GERD, they have it so bad that they are in a really high risk category for esophageal cancer. One of my aunts daughters has the same problem at a young age. My sister has many symptoms consistant with crohn's disease. I used to have stomach problems a couple years ago but have it under control with diet, pretty much just looked at how food is made to figure out why certain things made my stomach upset and others didn't. Had to learn to be good with ingredient labels and such.

Anyway, I rambled.

For me, marijuana.

Oh man, it's like I'm addicted...but not really (obviously, since it's not addictive), I just really like it and can't stop using it
