Are there seriously no programs that can play blu-rays on computers?

I'm trying to use cyberlink power DVD, and it absolutely will not work. It says that I need to update the program when I click play, and then that I have no internet connection. I updated the program manually...same deal. I searched and I can't find any other programs that will play a BD on a computer. Am I S.O.L. here? I have planet earth, but if I can't use it, it's going in the trash and I'd hate to waste the 30 bucks it cost

PowerDVD SUUUUCKS for Blu-Ray, I built a HTPC for a friend and silly me told him to buy PowerDVD for Blu-Ray playback not knowing how bad it was. He has 4 Blu-Ray's it plays 2 of them fine. One it does nothing for, and The Matrix is says something about unable to play due to that stupid protection Blu-Ray has. Only problem is his PC is fine for playing protected content, it's over HDMI. I Googled this and it seems a decent number of people are having problems with PowerDVD. Seems to be spotty at best when playing Blu-Ray.

PowerDVD works fine for me playing Blu-Ray over HDMI with my 52". I have the newest full version, though. I think it's 10?

Does it still play other Blu Rays? I have had the same error message and it meant that my Blu Ray drive needed the update not the software. The first time I updated the firmware of the drive and all was well

Then they kept changing the format of Blu Rays and Lite On stopped supporting my drive. It still plays all pre-2010 Blu Rays fine but most Blu Ray movies released this year give the need to update error message

AnyDVD + whatever you want to play your blu-ray with would be my suggestion.

Blu-ray is an annoying "standard" is a moving target. You basically take a crap shot with each new blu-ray disk on whether or not it will work with your software.

Media Player Classic or VLC?

they dont have the codecs to play blu-rays. it sucks balls....but youre pretty limited in the software available.

i dislike powerdvd, but it worked fine for me last time i used it. then again...i have a ps3 now, and usually watch blu rays on that.

Media Player Classic or VLC?

Both work OK for Blu-rays, but they will only play unencrypted discs unless used with some program that can bypass the encryption e.g. AnyDVD HD.

However, neither have decent VC-1 interlaced CODECs - and encryption or not, unless you have a uber-clocked i7, forget trying to play certain TV series which are presented in this format.

I have very few problems with PDVD9 Ultimate. It's been pretty good really and its worth the upgrade if you're on version 8. I had far more issues with version 8 like certain HD-DVD's and Blu-Rays just refusing to play.

My own machine(s) had issues with TMT3 so I've never used it much.

Just bought PowerDVD10 Ultra 3d off Ebay for $27.00 (Digital download with liscense emailed to you)

Newegg has total media platinum 3.0 download version for $59

In my experience PowerDVD 9 worked well for me, so upgrading as we speak right now.
