Are there RF remote controls that can be programmed to function with IR products?

I'm assuming you mean "IR". Yes, there are remotes that have both capabilities (my Kenwood receiver even came with one). I can control several different components from another room using "IR blasters".

Check out remotecentral.com for tons of info.

That remotecentral.com site is great.

But from what I gather you can't go directly from an RF signal to a IR signal without a basestation (to convert the RF to IR).

You can have something that supports both, but you can't use an RF transmitter to communicate with an IR photodiode. Opposite ends of the spectrum, IIRC.

HTF would you do that? you do realize that they are completely different parts of the spectrum, right?

Right, there has to be some conversion going on somewhere, because the IR signal can't go through walls. That's what I meant by "IR Blasters", these are small devices that your RF "basestation" uses to repeat the IR signal in the other room so your components can receive it.

Where did you get your "IR Blasters"?

A couple of them came with my ReplayTV. They shouldn't be too hard to find by themselves, though.

check a local computer show. i picked up an open box deal on some ir extenders for $15, and they're suually $50. they work great and they had a lot of em. also check out x10 remotes, like the pronto.
