My car radio has a function called RDS (Radio Data System) I guess some radio stations have this. I don't completely understand it. there is also RTS (radio text scroll) this is the function to see the text. I don't even know how to set the time on my Kenwood 715S, I was looking and found this. Anyone know of any stations in L.A. that have this function?

I have listened to radio stations in my car where they would post WCPO Rock or something instead of 97.1 FM so I know they do exist. However there aren't many radio stations that do that.

My old Pioneer Premier DEX-P1R cd player used to also pick up various text from certain radio stations. While travelling I found this useful because it would tell me the radio station's call letters, and usually there were only 1-2 radio stations in each major city that would put out text (usually their slogan or RARELY they would do the song's artist and title).

You can find the stations but they're few and far between, however, I imagine with new satellite radio we should see more of that come into play over the next 5 years, it just probably won't ever catch on in today's analog radio format.

I wish more stations would use that feature. My deck has it, but barely anyone around here uses it. The only station in my area that I listen to that uses the RDS is a college radio station, none of the big station do it.

If you are in the LA area, I believe KIIS 102.7 has radio text. I don't have the capability in my car so I can't check, but my friends BMW displayed the call letters on the head unit.

Atlanta has several stations that broadcast call letters and a catchy slogan. Pretty gimmicky right now, maybe it'll catch on in a few years. Requires stations to get a new transmitter -- expensive when a great deal of the population can't take advantage of the technology.

I don't think KISS 102.7 does it because the RDS did not show up when i had it on the station earlier. None of the stations picked up RDS as a matter of fact.

My cd player, the Pioneer 8200r has the RDS feature as well. About three of the stations here in Houston post their slogan and one actually posts the artist name while the song plays.

There are a very few in Louisiana... I would be driving back home from Lake Charles to Baton Rouge and I would be like "wtf" looking at my Pioneer 835R. I remember listening to some talk show and a flashing message said the bridge was backed up. It was pretty cool but I have since upgraded to a new cd player. I still have the 835R ... good cd player.
