700m i got for 760. its a great ultra portable, my first laptop was the nice big giant kind with a good graphics card... needless to say i thought i would game on my laptop and i never ever did. you'll regret not going with a smaller laptop, thats for sure. integrated graphics is fine for every day use

40GB 5400RPM HDD (added later, obviously)

It should work OK, but I need to replace the cells in the battery...bah. Ah well, it's only costing 30 bucks, and it will last for longer than a new battery from Compaq.

Just thought I would take a break from stupid PSPICE crap to clear up some misconceptions:
(1) Compaq is not crap anymore, unless you consider HP crap 😉 HP bought Compaq a while back and now the two lines are kind of like GMC & Chevy: same basic build with a few diff features but overall the EXACT same build quality. Don't let the Compaq name scare you 😉
(2) Celeron no longer sucks....too bad The Celeron M is actually a disabled version of the Pentium M. It has the same basic core, same bus, they disabled like 3/4 of the cache (bringing it to 512KB in current models), removed some of the performance adding features (like the advanced branch predictor), and didnt give it full Enhanced Speedstep functionality (worse battery life). That said, the Celeron M is one of your best budget choices. It will compete decently with an Athlon XP based notebook and run a LOT cooler, should have better battery life too.

I asked the exact same question until I finally got the following computer for EXACTLY $1030 shipped to my door:

Compaq Presario R3000Z (AMD 1.8Ghz Athlon64 cpu)
512MB ram
40GB hard drive
cdrw/dvd drive
Compaq Bright View Screen (these look AWESOME and are clearer than the fujitsu screens IMO)
Best Wireless option installed
and all the other usual gizmos..
12-cell batter (4hours of battery life)
