Are there political prisoners in the US?

Probably the closest thing are the substantial number of people who are detained (sometimes for years at a time) because of issues with their immigration status. These people are generally not charged with a crime, but they often cannot go back to their home nation, nor can they get legal status here.

hmmmm... political prisoners. If you mean people that are held largely for political reasons, then yes. Mumia Abu-Jamal (sp?) and Leonard Peltier are the two most well-known. You might say that Kevin Mitnick was a political prisoner as well...


If you mean people that are held solely because they oppose the current political party without said party even bothering to drum up some false evidence, then not that I've ever heard of.
