Are there other dangers in overclocking a GPU besides heat?

I recently bought a PNY 7900gs (when they were on sale at BB) and just yesterday put a Zalman vf900 on it. Whoa, my temps went wayyyyy down. Without the Zalman I hit about 60 degrees max temp on full load, and now (with a large overclock) my highest temp is 47 (35 idle). I upped my core from 450 to 565 and my memory from 660 to 720.

Here is my question: Normally I?m not very aggressive on overclocking for fear that I will burn something up. However, with this Zalman my overclocked temps are far cooler than my earlier stock temps. Heat seems not to be a danger, but is there anything else that may damage my video card by keeping it overclocked this far? Will it shorten the life of my card? Is there anything else I need to be taking into consideration?

Thanks for the input.

I think you'll be ok.

As long as the card is 100% stable and you havent volt modded anything, that card will last you longer than you'll probably need it.

Overclocking in general will reduce the life span of your card, but as I said, by the time it actually dies it'll probably be past its useful life.

Even if your temps are great you still don't want to over-volt anything. Imagine all of those microscopic delicacies running at 1.8-2.0 volts and have a charge jump a wire or overload a resistor.

*POP*......AH!!!!.....MY CARD'S ON FIRE IN MY CASE!!!!...............*cry*

Just ask redbox about that. He'll know from personal experience :p

Heard a few cases of houses going off like atomic bombs after certain faulty 7900GS's hit 1700MHz on the memory. 625 on the core will sometimes implode your PC into a black hole. Either way.. it's not good. :D

You should be fine.
Just don't do any vmods are anything like that.

I still have my 2x7900GT's that I vmodded back in March and they still work fine.
So vmodding can be good in moderation (so don't do it in your case).

If I don't volt mod it (which I haven't), then I shouldn't have to worry about the card bursting into flame, going atomic, or turning into a black hole (like some of the members have warned above)?
