I've been searching but all I can find are softwares that uses dial-up. I don't even have a dial up modem anymore and I don't have a dial up ISP either. I'm on cable, by the way

yup...but it only works if you have a fax modem. IIRC, there is web based software to handle faxes.

And how is broadband going to make an analog phone call to a fax machine? You need to either have a fax-modem or use one of the online services that charge you for faxing.

I've checked all those threads before and guess what? none of them answered my question. They just verified what I said before of all these dial up softwares. Although i understand that you need a phone line, there must be something out there that I could use to send it by cable

EagleKeeper thanks, but I don't think that I was clear. I'm not talking about online services like efax or jfax or one of those. I was talking about a pc based software like winfax or the fax that comes in windows. I looked on the tpc link and it seems like they have a few different services, but nothing for cable.

Anyone else?

Do you have an active phone line jack within 50ft of your computer? Any cheapo free-after-rebate modem with its bundled software will send and receive faxes. Here is what I do on my dsl line. One jack: dsl. Second jack about 20 feet away: modem. Although I am not sure about cable connections, I know that there is no conflict when simultaneously faxing via modem and surfing via dsl.

To use broadband, the internet must then jump out to an analog phone line for the final transmission to a machine.
Who will pay for that line. You are asking for it to be free.

You can use a modem even if you have cable. I have it at home, ties into the phone line. I just need to tell the family that it is in use for a fax. The system can receive faxes, however, I do not have it set up for that automatically. FAx S/W is what came free with the modem.

Exactly. I have cable broadband but also have a modem in my computer for sending/recieving faxes. I just use the Windows fax software...

I have the same problem right now. Maybe I should just put that pesky modem back in my machine and find a phone jack.

Thanks, Eaglekeeper for your post. I checked both of them out and I think EFax is probably the way to go. I need to send in a scanned image and TPC doesn't seem be able to do that. Efax however wants a montly subscription fee. I'd rather have a service that charges me a dollar a fax than pay a monthly service fee.

I guess I'll need either need to put that modem back in or find a Kinko's. Thanks again for your post though.

Look, how do fax machines communicate? Phone lines. How does your cable connection call a phone? I can answer that for you. It can't. There needs to be some kind of service that forward your fax request from the ISP (broadband connection). For that, you likely have to pay a fee since nobody is gonna do that for you for free. A "fax program" just does not do that for you because what you want does not make sense from a software perspective.
