Are there never going to be any more scsi burners?

I know that very few will be willing to pay the premium for scsi, but that's always been the case. Has the market gotten to the point where no longer is a market for scsi burners?

Yeah , pretty much.. cheaper the better but u can always use the ide->scsi converter like yamaha

wow, i didnt even know those existed. i doubt it would be worth it, though. when i think about it, though, i guess technology like burn proof make scsi burners obsolete, even though having a scsi burner would leave more cpu available for things like gaming.

With even the latest and greatest IDE burners we're sortof seeing the law of diminishing returns kick in...ie. the newer 40x units are barely faster than previous generations. CPU utilization is not really an issune and there's plenty of power to share. And like FlippyBoy said burnproof took away SCSI's advantage there.

I guess the only reason to get an SCSI unit is to have an SCSI unit. Not much of a reason.

Yamaha makes a 24x/10x/40x SCSI3 CDRW, comes with blue LEDs. Its $299

SCSI is still expensive despite the time it has been around... again, scsi burners are a lot more expensive than IDE burners and IDE technology is getting mature (serial ATA and all that new stuff). SCSI's price will probably keep people away from it BUT SCSI is still a better system than IDE and it does have it's market in servers and stuff

you have to set the scsi ID

come on, when is scsi gonna be cheap? it has been around forever and prices haven't dropped a bit, i'm thinking of getting rid of my old scsi stuff now

The prices have dropped quite alot, but not anywhere near IDE prices.

SCSI will never be cheap unless it takes over (not likeley because Serial ATA and other ATA derivatives are set to take over the current ATA/IDE-dominated market).

To make matters even worse, I read that Mac OS X and higher doesn't support SCSI. For so long, the Apple/Mac market was a cashcow for SCSI. Replaced yet again by IDE ...
