Are there major differences (besides storage) between the new iPods and the old ones?

The 5GB old ones are going for about $200 on eBay.. are there any major differences I should be worried about between the old iPods and the new ones?

biggest difference is size (new ones are 5.6 ounces IIRC old ones are slightly under a pound i believe 10-12 ounces) the button placement

dock, USB 2.0 support, and the new ones also support on the fly playlists

The new iPod is awesome. $399 for a 15 GB with dock and much smaller size, albeit with a shorter battery life. I have one for my Mac TiBook. Firewire connectivity with this thing rules.

Review here and here.

Better games (solitaire), and comes with iPod firmware 2.0. The old ones can't run this firmware, but fortunately, firmware 1.3 for the old iPods allow them to play back AAC files.

Personally I wouldn't spend $200 for a 5 GB with no warranty esp. if you need to run USB 2 (which the old ones won't).

I've heard that the 5gb ipods were going for 150 or less in some places.

As for differences, the newer ones have a new firmware and propritary dock
connection to a base station that accepts usb 2 and firewire. They also look
slightly different, are a bit slimmer and have all solid state controls in a new
configuration. I believe you have to have the dock to charge the new ones
whereas the older ones you just needed a firewire cord and the ac adapter.
Also the new firmware may be available for the older versions soon. The main
thing that the new firmware allows is for on the fly playlist programming and
AAC support.

You don't absolutely need the dock to charge.. notice that the 10gb version of the new iPod does not have the dock included. All 3 models, however, do have the ipod to firewire adapter so that you can charge the unit using the 6-pin firewire config.
