are there going to be price cuts again

it seems like they havent lowered priced in a while. are there going to be anymore intel price cuts or are these pretty much the final prices for core 2

I have read that there is a planned price cut for the intel e5200 of about 25% once the e5400 is released, but even that is speculation. Who knows how grim the economy of 2009 will be and what that will do
to world wide CPU demand. Or how much competition AMD can offer.

As it is, for most people, most of the the existing low priced cpu's offer enough speed, and its only a comparatively few processor intensive people that are willing to pay the big bucks that funds R&D development
for the ever faster PC.

Been wondering the same thing. I am hoping for a cut in the q9650 price since most folks seem to have a woody for the i7.

Given more i7s aren't due out I think until late 09 I would strongly suspect price cuts this summer.

I'll second that. I'm running an E8400 and love it. I can't wait to get my hands on a Q9550 at a reasonable price.

Come again? I thought some of the lower-end i7 chips were scheduled for a Q2 2009 launch.

Personally, I'm satisfied with the e8400 and e3110 chips I have running currently. I plan to do a full upgrade on one system late 2009 when Westmere launches (at that point I will probably also get an SSD and Windows 7 to round everything out).

Too bad I scored $125 on a nearly brand new E8500.

I see mentioned from time to time that the current i7's are aimed at the server market, but I haven't seen anything from Intel stating this. Can anyone shed any light on this for me? I am still trying to decide if I should jump on the i7 bandwagon or stick with my original plan of getting a q9650.

I just put together my first quad OC rig for my kid for Christmas.. and it blows my rig away.. I must do something about that.

The i5's will be the Lynnfield chips. Nehalem was designed as a server based chip, and i7 (Bloomfield) is actually a desktop chip; although it is based on the server platform. It is the "enthusiast" platform, just like the FX platform from AMD. Both are mainly server platforms for regular desktop users.

LGA 1366 and triple channel DDR3 are both features of the Server based product that has not been released yet. The LGA-1156 processors (Lynnfield - i5) will only have dual channel DDR3, but isn't scheduled for release until Q3 of next year.

Keep your eyes open. I got a Frys B&M deal Q9550 retail + ECS mobo for $230, then sold the mobo for $35. $195 isn't bad for a $320 CPU.

I am telling you the E5200 is a gem and a sweet toverclocker that can get to 3.33ghz range with stock cooler....

If this thing hits 62 bucks I will be building my son a new PC to replace the aging A64 3000+@2.4ghz
