Are there going to be any major advances in vision correction anytime soon?

About 5 years ago I told myself that I would wait until Lasik and other vision correction methods matured before getting it done on my eyes.

Has that time come, or are there even better things on the near horizon, or things that they still need to iron out with Lasik, like side effects, halos, dry eye, etc?

my eye doctor told me my lens (or something) is too thin for lasik

he said wait 5-10 years and they'll have a way to implant a lens (like a contact lens) into my eye, similar to what they do for cataracts
