Here in the Dallas area I had to visit three stations before I found one that had gas in the pumps.

No shortages, but this is one of the most expensive places in the country for gas.
I paid $2.79 a gallon to fill up today, and that's the cheapest gas I've seen gotten about a month before Katrina.

<-- Just outside Chicago

That is painfull. I did say "one of" the most expensive places in the country :)
Though perhaps i should have said "was" rather then "is".

As of 8/15-8/20 (pre Katrina), Chicago was THE most expensive city in the country for Gas (this is per a WBBM news radio broadcast I had heard driving home from work.)

When the hurricane hit, we went from $2.85 to about $3.25.
within a week we were back under $3.

Now we are cheaper then NY and San Fran, Los Angeles, and many other cities.
I just hope things don't get much worse.

Yes, but I am in Dallas too so ... that explains it. I think they re-routed all the tankers that were in and around Dallas to help people that are running out of gas stuck in traffic evacuating Houston.
