are there disadvantages to using hubcentric rings on your car wheels?

I'm considering buying some new wheels for my car and a guy offered to sell me his rims/tires because he is buying new ones (16" TSW Edge). He indicated that they need "centercaps w/ hubcentric rings" to fit and I was curious as to whether or not they would pose any possible negitives for usage (performance, safety, etc.). Anyone know if there are disadvantages to using wheel spacers?

okay it doesnt look like the wheels will need spacers but he has hubcentric rings, are there any disadvantages to using them?

EDIT: or rather major disadvantage over using wheels that dont fit stock and you have to use the hubcentric rings to fill the gaps.
