Are there different prescriptions for contact lenses and glasses (spectacles)?

Or can you use the same prescritpion for both. My eye doctor is trying to get me to get contact lenses from him (at hihgly inflated prices), and when I asked for a prescirpiton so I can get quotes from other places, he said the prescrption he's giving me is only for spectacles not for lenses.

They are different prescriptions, because contacts take into account curvature of your eyeball and stuff like that. Go to http://www.1800contacts.com , they have a section about getting your prescription from your eye doctor. Some states have laws that say the doctor MUST give up the prescription when asked for it. Very informative.

Auto parse the URL, damnit!

They are also different because of the distance the lens is from your face. A contact sits right on your eyeball, your glasses are an inch or so away from your eye. That matters as well.

oh I understand that. The contact lense place did hte measurement for my eye. What I was talking about was the actualy power of the eye.

Anyway I got my contacts, they are "CooperVision" brand. It took me 30mins to get them in!! Look for another thread asking how to put them in proerply. The optician lady taught me, but it is still hard. Guess I have to get used to it.

i think coastalcontacts.com doesn't need the prescription, so you could just read the box
