Are there different kinds of static IP addresses that I can get from my ISP? PPoE? Others?

I'm getting adsl. Trying it out for the first month and see how goes.
I require a static ip to play around with setting up of a FTP, web server, TS, and print server.

Are there various kinds of static IPs that can be assigned to me? If so, which one will hinder my trying to set up the above services?

Another question while I'm at it...

I want my laptop to be the gateway for internet access. The adsl connection will be directly hooked to the laptop running W2K Pro/Server. I also have two desktops that I want to use the connection. Do I simply setup a ICS? Or NAT? How do I make my internal network invisible to the ISP? Do I need a router/switch?

Thx in advance.

Nope, either you get static or you get dynamic. There isn't any different types of static IPs. As for your other question, I'd use some kind of NAT solution. I've personally never used ICS, so I can't comment on its performance or compatibility, but I know NAT works great. You wouldn't have to buy a router, you could use software. Either a dedicated router software, such as FreeSCO, or if you require filtering and the like, try WinProxy or Wingate. These 2 proxy packages now both use NAT for internet, while giving you the filtering ability or a Proxy Server. Finally, no, you ISP is unable to find out that you're sharing you connection.
