Are there any well-known places to get something sewn? (part of a costume)

So I'm bringing out my inner nerd once again and attending Dragon*Con next month in Atlanta.

I cannot sew, nor do I have a machine, but need something relatively easy to be sewn for me. I don't know anybody that would be able to do this for me.

Are there any 'popular' stores to get something done for me, or do I have to find a small business? I don't mind spending some money, just nothing ridiculous. I think I would have to be present to get this fitted though, correct?

What does ATOT suggest? Anyone have any tips?

...tailor?

or female friend/buddy's wife/something?

or get a machine from goodwill or craigslist and learn. it's not really hard to 'sew,' with a machine, but it does take about seven hours to get it threaded.

Check with the theater arts school at your local university. There are plenty of students looking to make a buck and will work for cheap.

You might check Craigslist?

Also, I believe many dry cleaning places or alterations places can also do it, but it won't be as cheap.

Sorry, your only hope is to mail it back to China where it was made. They'll throw it in a landfill there and send you a new one.

I've been a theater costumer for a good 30 years, where ya located?

A lot of costumes don't really require sewing - there are safety pins, iron-on tape, staples, adhesive sprays, glue sticks, duct tape and so on. If you can't find a friendly sewing person, try somebody who does a lot of crafts.

Best.
