Are there any web sites that will custom build PC cases for normal people?

I am getting ready to start purchasing for a new build. But it seems none of the cases out there are what I want. So I was wondering are there any websites that you can send your design to and have them build it? I don't care if it has to be built out of metal.

You must post pictures after you're done, to show that it's so special you got to custom build it. :D

The cheapest way to make a metal case is to laser cut aluminum. That'll cost you about $1000.

DangerDen can get you a quote on a wood case.

Plexi is another option, but I don't know where you should go for that.

You might want to check out J&N Computers.

I have dealt with them on a number of occassions and they have been very pleasant and very knowlegeable people and their prices were good.

They don't make cases.

:Q Why so much?

I've also often wondered who case companies use to 'fabricate' their aluminum cases. You know, companies like Cooler Master, Lian Li, Silverstone ... what kind of metalworking company do these guys use? Are there "aluminum fabricators" or something or ???

This is all assuming these companies don't use their own foundry & do their own metalworking -- I assume they draw up their designs and then send them out to ________, and those people then physically make the case?

CoolerMaster, Silverstone, etc... They don't make cases. They design bezels. The cases are made by companies that specialize in making cases. Bezel molds are relatively cheap (about $20K) so they'll just make a new bezel mold and put it on the same ol' chassis. And for the record: The bezels, unless they're aluminum, are typically not made by the chassis manufacturer either. They're usually made by a company that specializes in ABS.

Lian-Li is expensive because they make their own product and don't OEM for anyone else. On the other hand, they're not that much more expensive because their margins are slim and they don't have to pay a middle man. Typically, once these other cases change hands between four pairs of hands, the street price is easily double the actual manufacture costs.

New chassis molds are about $100K. That's because they're giant presses that the aluminum is stamped into.

The laser cut case is so expensive because of time. The G-code of the case drawing has to be loaded up into a CNC machine. The CNC then controls a laser that cuts the panels. The panels are then hand riveted together. This is typically how prototypes are made prior to investing in a new mold. The cost for one of these cases is usually about $1000.

screensavers and mplsBob...

"postcount = postcount +1"???

Quit skimming and read the OP. ;) He's not talking about building a PC. He's talking about building A CASE. The chassis. Custom. From scratch.

EDIT: Wink added to show I'm not being a hard ass.

OP, there are a lot of metal shops around that can do what you want, and even make the whole thing out of copper if you like, but it will cost a fair bit. You would be far better of modding a stock case. If you're looking for something really different, check this out.
