Are there any ways to increase the speed of downloading without upgrading your service plan.

There are programs called download accelerators - they work mainly by segmenting the download and downloading two pieces at a time. FDM (free download manager) is a good free one, but I find GetRight to be worth the cost (it is nagware, not crippleware like the site suggests, it will run forever but bug you with a reg screen often).

DownloadThemAll is a good download manager. It lets you segment as many times as you want. Realize that this won't increase the max speed of your connection, if you have 500KB/s max now, you won't get any faster speed. However, some servers only allow say 100KB/s per downloader. With this you could open 5 segments and max out your connection.
