Are there any voltmods for PCI-Express 6600GT's?

I have a BFG 6600GT OC, and I am thinking about buying a zalman f700. My temps are fine right now (46C idle, 55C load), so the only reason I would get it is if there is a voltmod I can do on my card to get higher overclocks. Are there any?

Actually your load temps are higher

I idle at 41C

When I exit a game and quickly check nvidia cp im at 55C

when i use ivatuner to track my temp i get to 72C in games while i cant see the cp.

you get well over 70C id say.

My card doesnt like anything above 73C

aah, so that's why I get artifacts when I overclock and it goes up to 56C. I'll probably just end up getting the zalman then.

I have the exact same card (Chaintech SE6600G) and I get 36dle/51load on a VF700-Cu with AS5. @585/1120

and by 'load' i mean 1+hour of rthdribl or using the RivaTuner hardware monitoring during BF2, I never exceed 47 even after hours of use and 80-degree room temp. You might try to use AS5 with the copper version of the VF700. Works extremely well, got an extra ~20mhz core and almost 50mhz on the memory.

but even with such good cooling, a volt mod will be necessary for most 6600GTs to go over 600mhz core/1250mhz memory. softmodding does not work as the 6600GT already operates at the top of the bios voltage table for that GPU.

i got a VF700 all copper and used AS5 on my 6800GT

mine was a leadtek card too! but now it doesnt go anywhere near 70degrees full load....it used to climb into the 80's

that big copper heatsink Leadtek supply isnt all that good....the base is poorly finished very dull and grainy. the heatpipe only makes contact with the edge of the copper fins, and the fan is just too puny.

the back plate also baffles me. i remember the back plate getting too hot to touch...now that its off the back of the card is mildly warm to touch!?! i dont understand why the backplate got so hot, if the back of the card doesnt actually get all that hot

on closer inspect you can see the back plate (on mine anyway) is Laminated, and really thick thermal pads (3-4mm thick) are there.....how this even conducted heat well, let alone got roasty is beyond me

still the VF700Cu + AS5 only got me another 10mhz on the core and another 20mhz on the mem

im clean out of voltage

eh, better than nothing, lol

yeah I am not too sure about soldering and whatnot

time to spring for a better card, oh well I need something with 256mb anyway

Wow, lots of good stories about the zalman 700! When I said are there any voltmods, I meant physical hardmods on the card. I will be ordering it soon!

there are a few actually

with a conductive pencil or solder, I've seen people go as high as 1.75v (from current 1.40v or less) and clock speed close to 700/1500 range.

do a search, I've actually seen one specific to the Chaintech SE6600G somewhere. It is the same card as you BFG (which is actually a Chaintech)

actually on that note, next time you might STRONGLY consider buying the Chaintech version of a card, not the BFG.

same card, same bios. BFG uses different HSF but same exact ramsinks (except copper, not aluminum). BFG just pre-OC the card slightly. But you obviously can do that yourself, and much better OC to boot :)

the only reason to buy a BFG is the warranty and customer service.

since you are scrapping the BFG HSF and ramsinks anyway, and since you plan to immediately void the warranty by voltmodding, you should save yourself the $30 and buy the exact same card for less money (future reference)

thanks!

EDIT: I have been reading about this zalman cooler, and if I can get the speeds some of theese people have got without voltmodding, then I will probably just forget about voltmodding it.

haha I want to voltmod mine SOOOOO BAAAAAD...

...but I've come to the conclusion that no amount of modding is going to get my 128-bit 128MB NV43 to where I want the dang thing anyway.

heck with it, I'm ditching the sucker for at least a 6800GT.
