I'm going to be buying a new iMac once the back to school promo starts and was looking at what I could do with the new thunderbolt technology and have yet to really find anything that makes it worthwhile. Dont get me wrong I'm still buying the Mac but I just want to know and learn more about what I'm going to be buying.

This will mean that all my computers will be from Apple which is kinda scary really especially since I'm in the IT profession and about to graduate. If anyone could make me feel better about the purchase feel free!

I am just waiting for the first super box that you can plug into Thunderbolt. With DVI/HDMI, USB, FireWire and eSATA on it. Multiple ports for some of those. Maybe 3-4 USB, 2 FW, and 1 eSATA. Not quite as elegant as a docking station, but not too shabby.

And if they can figure out how to do the following 2 things;

1: Run the entire system on less than 10W
2: Allow power IN on Thunderbolt

They can make it so you just have to hook up one cable, not three to the cinema display. Though I would imagine that the next refresh of that will lose the USB cable.

It all sounds great but how likely is this scenario. I understand new technology usually means time before we see it being implemented well however it worries me to not read much about thunderbolt accessories.

I imagine by the time it's actually fully implemented, they'll have Thunderbolt 2, sort of in the way Firewire was.
