Are there any stand alone DVRs?

Something you can just buy and hookup without any subscriptions? It has to just be able to accept a time and channel to record.

Unless you're doing OTA-only, it's probably cheaper to get HD Tivo + lifetime.

DVD recorders start at around $80, or $200 with hard drive, but you'll want to find one with a -digital- over-the-air tuner not an old (analog+analog cable) tuner.

So, this is a OTA only box? It said Analog passthrough in the article, I wonder if it'll have components IN/OUT? I'd pay $250 to add some DVR funtionality to one of my Directv boxes.... and have the ability to move it to another service inthe future (rather than just buying another DTV HD DVR).

If you have a mediocre spare computer, slap Beyond TV on it. It used to show up FAR at Frys.com. (That's how I got mine) No subscriptions. The guides are great. I love it.

REAL commercial skip FTW.
