Are there any speakers that utilize 6.1 feature on Herules GTXP ???

I really wish I can use 6.1 set up on my Hercules GTXP. I have two Logitech Z-560s and I was thinking of combining them together. Is there a way to do this ?

I'll appreciate it if someone can guide me to making a 6.1 setup with my GTXP.

im not exactly sure, so double check on this.

you should put one of the z560's as you normally would. front and rear.

then with the other set you would put the front satellites as the center channel. im not sure if the left speaker goes in the front, or if the right speaker goes in the front.

but if you already have 2 sets of the z-560's, and the GTXP, i think you should try it out and see wether the left speaker goes in the front or the right speaker. you can test this using the software that comes with the gtxp.

Alrighty... This should be right up my ally because I've been experimenting with the GTXP and various multimedia/ power amps/ and audiophile speakers.

Here's what you do:

First take one set of Z560s, take the front/mains green mini plug and connect it to the mains.
Take the black surround miniplug and connect it to the surrounds.

You now have 4 speaker audio surround sound..

Then.. take the 2nd set of Z560s and hook the front mains to the "center" channel.
Do this by buying an adapter at radio shack. It will be a female stereo mini plug to single male RCA. The left speaker will play as the center channel and right speaker will play nothing.
I am also sure you can use a Y adapter and use the center channels single RCA out, to split into stereo mini plug female. Then your logitech front 2 speakers will play the same center channel input but at a lesser quality.

Then use the headphone adapter the GTXP came with and plug in the black surround plug into the headphone jack. This will be your rear channel.

You will basically have 6 speaker surround with this, I suggest using a THX test like on fight club or star wars to calibrate your speakers to equal listening levels. An SPL meter at radio shack will be best but you can use your ear instead.

good luck

Hourman, if I get you correctly, there are 2 ways of making 6.1 setup with Z-560s. First is by using the Y-splitter and second, by using "a female stereo mini plug to single male RCA". But then you said the first method will have less quality sound correct? So I might as well go with the second method then.......

Do you know what a "female stereo mini plug to single male RCA" looks like? Can you find a link at radioshack online? And if i use this method, I will have superior audio quality than the Y-splitter method, correct ?

Thanks, Hourman.

So I guess you didn't get my directions again, huh?

I would suggest you go up to your Radio Shack and look for the products that I mentioned... if you can't find them, describe what you're looking for to someone working at the store, and they'll find the product for you. Any sound degradation will be very very insignificant. Trust me, you will not notice a difference one way or another.

Here are my most set of instruction one more time...

**We'll call your 2 sets of Z560s set 1 and set 2.**

1.) Connect SET 1 as you normally should.

Now, focus on SET 2.

2.) Find a way to get the green miniplug (or the front speaker wire) on your Z560s to fit into the RCA plugs on the GTXP. You can do this in many different ways. I choose to buy a coupler that goes from 1/8" (female) to 1/8" (female)... then I bought a wire that goes from 1/8" male to RCA on the other side.

3.) Connect your "modified" miniplug (which should be the "stereo/front speaker" miniplug eventually turning into the RCA plugs).. plug those RCA plugs into the GTXP's RCA jacks (marked center/sub on the GTXP). Connect them as I told you before, the RCA white plug should go into the GTXP's center jack and the RCA red plug should go into the GTXP's subwoofer jack.

4.) Now all you have to do is plug your last miniplug from set 2 of your Z560s (the miniplug that would normally go into the surround out jack of the GTXP) into the GTXP's HEADPHONE output. Then turn up the headphone knob to it's maximum.

(note: I'm betting that your wires on SET 2 of your Z560s may be too short to run from the back of your room to the actual GTXP's connections. What I did was go to RadioShack and buy a whole bunch of "extension wires" they carry... the wires I'm talking about go from 1/8" female to 1/8" male... you would plug your Z560's miniplugs into these "extension wires" to get them to reach the GTXP).

Good luck again.

You should be able to do the same kind of swapping with any 4.1 and 2.1 speakers set, to get 6.1 sound. The PM 4.1s and 2.1s for example. The difference being that you'll only have 1 satellite for front/rear centres.

Incorrect. You guys are getting confused on what the 6.1 spec is. The PM 4.1 + PM 2.1 would give you an effective "5.1" solution (where only 5 of your 6 satellite speakers would be of use). If you have the PM 5.1 + the PM 2.1, you could, then, make an effective "6.1" set up. The only way of creating a "6.1" solution with a 4.1 speaker system is to get another 4.1 speaker system... then you would effectively be making use of 7 of the 8 satellite speakers.

Note that I keep on subtracting 1 satellite speaker away because the center channel output is done by just 1 speaker whereas the rear surround output is done by 2 speakers.
