I had a 1.6a P4 @ 2.6Mhz default heatsink, I would have hit 2.8 no problem with an alpha if i where to have it longer.

anyways... the usb would not work, and not even a use pci card would work.

with the abit board and the 1700+ is usb or any other devices a problem? what about the onboard nic? does it work fine with high fsb? or is it best to use a pci nic card?

Thanks

Yes, you experience a sympton called "fat wallet" where there is money which shouldnt be.
1700+ is the cheapest and most overclockable chip at the moment. As long as you make
your setup stable, you shouldn't have to worry much.. Just keep it cool. Same stupid laws
of physics apply here (heat kills electrical components)

yes, you experience a disorder called 'Can't stop buying chips To Overclock them and since they're cheap, why not get them':p
An prime example of this disorder is Shimmishim(sorry, Shim:)). He has bought over 10 chips in 3 months.
ok, now for the serious part
the abit NF7-S has a problem with SATA RAID. my friend has hit problems with 1 drive using the convertor
as long you don't use the convertor, you'll be fine.
the 0310 chips look the best 1700+ overclockers currently

AHH!!!

I can't help it!!!

:)

It's fun to see how far you can push a processor that's only supposed to run at 1.47 ghz...

:)

Another side affect is the damn addiction that you get. I will find myself sneaking out of bed at night when my wife is sleeping to see if I can get an extra 1-2mhz on the FSB and then run some benchies to see how much higher the scores are and then, wait.....shh shh.....good that wasn't her, just the dog. :) See what I mean.

Save yourself! Buy the fastest processor you can afford and leave it alone. Look at me man, I don't sleep anymore! I think of new ways to mod my case to allow better airflow ALL THE TIME! I am consumed by me precious, my little precious. I try to makeses her go faster I does, my master wantses to go faster and I try. My precious loves to go faster................

I keep telling myself "just put the case screws back in and walk-away". Argh..., but you know there is always something that I forgot I was going to do in there so I don't.

a cure for this disorder is being poor. a prime example would be me:p. i always have to remind myself "Remember, Brian, don't burn this one up or else you'll lose MYR215(around $57) which you can't afford to lose:p"

Yeah, it is addicting. Like the PCI/AGP lock of the nForce2 boards - I want it on my secondary computer too, because it's loaded with too much stuff for me to overclock the FSB. But there are a few problems there - 1) I'd need a RAID add-in card, because the few nForce2 boards that do support RAID only have SATA RAID, and adapters aren't too cheap either. 2) I'd be installing another motherboard for a rather marginal performance increase - the system has a KT266A chipset in there right now, and 3) it's only got PC2100 RAM, so I'd be limited to around 133MHz anyway, unless I spend MORE money on RAM.
Dangit I wish I knew VB/SQL programming - there's a job listing for that in the Classifieds. $1500-$1600 a week!! I make that in 6 weeks right now!

A big smile and a woody that could cut glass get's permanently stuck after you hit 2.4 Ghz.

LOL! I got the same thing hitting 2.3 Ghz with a 215 FSB....... :)
