Are there any real competitors to newegg?

Tiger Direct and Amazon come to mind for Internet-based stores, Fry's and Micro Center for physical stores, though Micro Center is decent for online purchases sometimes too.

Amazon > Newegg

To each his own, Newegg has some pretty nice prices and a lot of deals, I just try to avoid them personally because they charge sales tax since I'm a California resident, whereas TigerDirect doesn't as they have no warehouse here.

Actually, I find it's about 50-50 in terms of price between Amazon and the Egg. I agree though, Prime is pretty sweet if you got it...

I used to shop at Ewiz and Mwave but as time rolled on, Newegg kind of priced them out of the market. In addition to Newegg, I still use Amazon and Buy.com

I'll take Amazons prime shipping and no hassle returns over a few dollar savings.
Yes, this

Was a NewEgg fan for a decade. They ship fast and have good prices. They are awesome, until you have a problem.

NewEgg sold some OEM drives as "bare" drives that were said to include a warranty (not like OEM CPUs). Both Samsung and NewEgg refused to help on 2 out of 6 bad drives so I was stuck with em.

Had a couple other problems (after buying from them almost exclusively for 10 years with no issues) so now I check around. I still buy from NewEgg but I check around first.

I love NewEgg's search features so I always start out there but then I check Amazon/Tiger Direct/Fry's/Wal-Mart/Best Buy and the rest of the internet via Google's shopping feature. Amazon is better to deal with and has even been cheaper on a few things. Wal-Mart can be competitive on some electronics.

Sometimes I purchase items from this store:
www.directron.com
They build computers both AMD and Intel and sell parts as well as systems.

There are probably hundreds of competitors on the Internet that sell parts. Not many stores are as large as newegg, or have the selection they do. Often if you wait a while what you want or something just as good will go on sale at newegg. They not only have the best selection, but they have a good return policy. I like their pictures too.

On a side note if you want even more deals sign up for the Newegg newsletter. Sometimes they have extra savings but you have to get the newsletter and use the codes on there to get the savings.

If you like to assemble computers you might also look for the kind of case you want on youtube. They have all kinds of reviews of parts and cases on youtube.

Interesting that some people have had unresolvable issues. I've had to return a couple parts to Newegg and it's never been an issue. (Including a DOA Samsung OEM hard drive.) A couple minutes in the chat window with the Newegg rep and I had a shipping label.

I use several different vendors for very specific parts but overall I use newegg mostly because of their customer service and the fact I can order most anything and if it ships from Edison, NJ I'll get it next day on UPS 3-Day for free. Tough to beat that.
