Are there any quiet (48x or 52x) cd burners out there?

Hey, currently I have 2 optical drives. One is a 16x dvd sony drive and the other is a Artec 48x cd-burner. There are numerous times when I need to use both drives at the same time but the artec is extremely loud just reading discs. Are the more expensive drives at least quieter? Thanks

well i have the Liteon 52x32x52 and its super quiet, and super fast and really responsive, the best drive i have had in a long time. the drive i have before was a plex 8x cdrw, so i have been outta the loop for a while

Stay far away from Maddog drives. I picked up a 52X MD from the "for sale" forums here and it's unreliable, slow, and loud as hell. :|

any liteon 48x or faster cd-rw is in now way close to being quiet. the plextors are pretty quiet if you have the money and can wait for a deal.

Agreed... I have both a Plextor and Lite-On 52x drive, and the Plextor is MUCH quieter than the Lite-On...

2 people say plextor is quieter than liteon and 1 person says liteon is quiet. And don't get maddog or Asus...

50, FWIW I just replaced a LiteOn 48X burner w/ a LiteOn 52X (put 48X in daughter's machine, got 52X for $19 AR) and am finding the 52x to be quieter than the 48x. And, I was happy w/ the 48x's noise level.

I would say that the lite-on is not a quiet drive by any means
No kidding. I have a Lite-On LTR-52246S 52x24x52 and it vibrates my mid-tower when that sucker spins up higher than 40x or so. It sounds like its going to sling the dye right out of the discs.

The BenQ 48x16x48 I gave away was noticably more quiet but was also buggy as hell.

I decided to try something different and got the Sony CRX22SE - 52/24/52, and it makes half the noise my lite-on 48x drive did.

Not to mention my sony drive is about 3/4 the length (Its tiny).

Might look into Samsung and LG drives as well. My Samsung is waaay more quiet than my Liteon.

I second the Samsungs, But if you already have the drives a friend of mine put some acoustic padding around his Liteon (48x) to quiet it down.

I have a LiteOn DVD+RW and have had the same experience. I love it!

my samsung 52X burner is very quiet, much better than my old liteon.

i have a samsung and it is the most quiet drive i've owned but I wouldn't call i quiet. I've had Lite-on's and they aren't the much louder. are DVD recoreders any quieter then cd burners?
