^ If you want a quiet internal drive all I can tell you is stay away from Lite-on. Never had any first hand experience with Asus drives, but they used to be rebadged Pioneers. Could be different these days. My LG blu ray drive is reasonably quiet, much more so than my Optiarc and Samsung dvdrw's.
Plextor's are just rebadged drives from other makers, mostly Lite-on, though they had at least one blu ray drive that was a Pioneer. They haven't made their own drives in four or five years now.
Sony Optiarc just announced that they are dropping production of dvdrw drives, so one of the better brands has just left this market.
