Are there any problems mixing HDs from different manufacturers?

In the old days I used to encounter problems mixing HDs from different manufacturers such as WDs and Maxtors. So I still tend to stick with the same HD manufacturer in one system. I'm thinking of buying a 160 GB WD to go along with my 160 GB Maxtor. I'm assuming there isn't that type of problem anymore, right? I shouldn't have any problems?

If they follow the IDE spec there should be no problems whatsoever.

You oughta be able to run them at Raid 0 just fine too.. It will just perform based on the speed of the slower drive..

Why would there be any problem unless you are doing RAID? Are you afraid to mix hard drives with CD drives too? Are you scared to mix nVidia graphics cards with Creative sound cards?

Years ago there were problems mixing WD with anything else on the same channel. That's all gone away now. Currently have 1 WD and 1 Maxtor no problems at all.

I have 6 IBMs and 3 Maxtors in my computer.

The IBMs are in RAID configuration. I would put in some Quantum drives but I dont have any more space. :(
