Are there any other companies that make lappy's like Sony?

I love the design of the Sony laptops, you know, the tiny miniature laptops. They look freakin sweet. But i'd never buy a Sony laptop. The designs and size are soooo cool. But sony is way too expensive.

Does anyone else do this?

I'd have to agree sony is way to expensive. If your looking for one of those really small and impractical but cool laptops theres the Toshiba Libretto (or however its spelt) they are cool but expensive lol.

The libretto is slightly cheaper than Sony's. I think the one I saw at my local Sony shop was 2099. But then, Sony's laptops are said to be poor quality.

The Libretto is sweet. I've always liked Toshiba.

I think 13.3 Inch widescreen is the sweet spot. Full sized keyboards can fit, light and portable 🙂. The 13.3 widescreen lappy I saw at the 5th avenue datavision looked sweet, and felt light as hell! The 12 inch ibook felt like a brick...

Who makes this 13.3 inch widescreen? Sounds cool. 🙂

unfalliblekrutch, I would never consider anything from Avertec. Their products are horrible.

BladeVenom, I owned a Fujitsu before, it had a 14'' screen I believe. I found it rather bulky.

Who is OQO? Are they reputable?

Did you say Ultraportable, then it's an IBM Thinkpad X-series hands down.

They are nice. But I would like something like those Sony size laptops plus reliability. If IBM made a lappy with like a 7-10'' screen, I'd be all over it. Toshiba seems to be the best bet right now.

Haven't heard a single good thing about them.

Asus Z33A.
3.3 lbs., 12" screen, Asus quality.
http://usa.asus.com/products2.aspx?l1=5&l2=64

You can get it starting at 1200$ at JNCS.com

I know someone who just ordered one. They look to be sweet laptops.

EDIT:
The Toshiba Libretto has always been smaller than anything Sony has made to date. On the other hand, it's possible to use the keyboard on Sony's products; the same cannot be said bout the Libretto.

Averatecs seem to be ok. from what I hear from a few people I know that have them.

BTW, they make IPODs for apple.

My Dad is a pilot and got one of the smaller Averatec Centrino notebooks and he takes it everywhere (literally). The LCD is farily poor quality, but the rest of the computer has been top notch. Connects to wireless networks all over the place just fine when others would not. In fact, my Dad's told me based on other pilots viewing his, several more went out and got the same model. He's go no complaints for his uses (email, surfing, stock trading, video, etc.)

Sony doesn't make any computers. They sell computers so do you mean is there another company that sells the same exact thing for a lot less? Yes but i don't know enough about that sort of thing to tell you who.

I'm sure there aren't any generic rebranded Vaio notebooks.

<---Typing on a Sony Vaio S.

How are you liking it? I've always heard and read that SOny's laptops are POS's.

Asus and Fujitsu are your best bets

QFT.

If you're willing to go 14" widescreen, then that opens a lot of doors. I heard Asus just introduced a 13.3 model, but my sources tell me it probably won't make it to United States until 2006.

<--brought an Asus W3V after deciding between that and the Sony S for months. Couldn't be happier =]

From what I have seen, Sony makes a surprisingly large percent of the stuff they sell.
That said, they've chosen to do about sixty things as opposed to doing one or two things well.
