Diablo2 was the last one I played. It seems like there weren't anything after that. Was anything released in 2005? which ones?

Most of the good ones already released were listed by Acanthus. Fable is out, but that great of a RPG imo.

Soon to come out: Oblivion, Neverwinter Nights 2, and more 🙂
 
You should play The Elder Scrolls series. I am playing Star Wars KOTR right now for the first time and im enjoying it.
 
Gothic 1 and 2 are great once you get past the god awful user interface and control. They are both very well done and have nice places to explore. Plus part 3, which looks phenomenal is coming out by years end.

Diablo II wasn't even really a true RPG in my book (not that it wasn't a fun/good game).

Try:

Baldurs Gate I & II
Elder Scrolls III
Planescape: Torment
Neverwinter Nights (Diamond Edition is out... $30.00 for the game, plus two expansions, plus several of the best mods)
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic I & II

umm...you added "for PC" 2 hours after he posted?

Morrowind and Neverwinter Nights are both good PC RPGs, though not up to the level of the 2D isometric classics I listed. They are in 3D though.

Assuming you can put up with endless random encounters (complete with giant spinning scene change ) every 10 seconds of moving around.

That has begun to annoy me more as time goes by.

Personally, I didn't consider the Diablo/ Dungeon Seige type games to meet the definition of CRPG that brought me into PC games -- those were action games with a few RPG style elements thrown in, as exemplified by the very simple stuff referred to as RPG's and offered for console play.

RPG's for PC's are an expensive, laborious investment, and the market has seemed to have shrunk when the MMO-RPG stuff displaced it. There was KOTOR and KOTOR-II, Morrowind, and two expansions for that (Oblivion is due out "soon"), and then the real phenomenon of the last few years, NWN and its two (official) expansions. There are hundreds, maybe thousands, of Mods for NWN to try, free. At least one of the user-created Mods is now on the shelves for sale.

DeusEx is also awesome, but is a hybred FPS/RPG.
