If you don't need a local phone number there are plenty of providers. When you want a local number then the choices start to drop.
I use callcentric, cheap as I only use pay as you go from home. basically .01 a minute if I make a call. I rarely use $5 worth from home so that is all I have to pay each month. $5 + 1.95 fee for a local number so $6.95 a month.

I have viatalk as well, but imo their service sucks...... I am getting lots of disruption during calls, echo, drop call, etc, but the worse part is their international service. If you make lots of international calls like I do, dont bother.

I dont make international calls, so I dont know about that, though I have never had any of the other issues you mentioned. For me they have been excellent!

I like vonage. Not the cheapest but like the saying goes - You get what you pay for.

ic ic, I think my problem is not using viatalk hardware. I've got their BYOD service and using Cisco 188ATA device. It works ok, but definately not great. For example, I cant call ATT conference bridge number, it would just fail & International calls failed most of the time.
Is it possible for you to access the ATA device that they gave you ? can you check which server it is configured to use ?

I used to do the BYOD with an Asterisk server. My reliability was good, but I feel that I have no issues at all using the provided Linksys PAP. I am real happy with Viatalk!!

Server I am connected too:
grimlock.vtnoc.net
