Well, Lowes seems to be more in bed with the Black And Decker group including Dewalt, Porter-Cable and Delta, plus Hitachi. So there are still plenty of nice tools. Milwaukee is great, but there are equivolents in pretty much every category.

Milwaukee already manufactures Ryobi and Rigid, not to mention part of the Craftsman line. Are you suggesting they will invent yet another line to undercut the sales of their already existing lines?

Emerson used to make Craftsman and Ridgid. Then Home Depot moved Ridgid to their Ryobi plant. If there's an affiliation with Ryobi and Milwaukee, then it's going to be the opposite of what you're assuming. Quality --

True, I can get stuff for a bit less on Amazon with free shipping (if I dont mind the wait) compared to Lowes or Home Depot. Never have bought a power tool from Home Depot but I do like Lowes warrantee.

Someone mentioned the lacking of quality amongst all brands. A Bosch orbital sander I bought couldn't grip the sandpaper overtime as well as it should and then the front clamp broke due to the wearing and eventual breakage of (surprise surprise) a plastic part that is supposed to be metal in my opinion.

I haven't been disapointed with Dewalt, using a friend's cordless circular saw and myself owning a miter saw. A cheap Delta table saw of which will be replaced by a solid cast iron table saw has gotten be through for a bit. I also have a Bosch jigsaw that seemed to hold up so far since two years I got it. I even have one of those cheap Task force scroll saws for small things and used the heck out of it with no problems so far.

Oh and yeah, after borrowing a friend's Black and Decker puny cordless circular saw, I can also vouch for the "soccor mom" tool mentality that worthless thing is. Doesn't have power at all and only like a minute battery life. And maybe it isn't just me.... Lowes is indeed phasing out the better tools and pushing the cheapo brands.

But never have owned or used Milwalkee. I don't think I am too worried about it.

I don't see how this will hurt Lowes as much as it will Milwaukee. The average person shopping at Lowes will still go to lowes to buy what they need, if milwaukee isn't one of the choices, they'll just get another brand thats out on display. Not like they will miss milwaukee or even know at one time Lowes sold them.

You laugh, but they're damn good deals. I got a 19V & 17V power drills, 19V reciprocating saw, 19V circular saw, and a edger.

Unfortunately there are only 2 Lowe's stores in Bay Area, which is a shame. Unless you are a contractor, HD sucks big time. And could they hire more than 5 people per the whole store?

For a few days now, we've been hearing rumors that soon Home Depot will soon be the sole big-box tool retailer carrying Milwaukee brand power tools, which have previously been available from both Lowes and Home Depot stores. These rumors have been confirmed and it looks like Lowes will no longer be a retailer of Milwaukee products. Of course, this could mean that there could be some good deals to be had on Milwaukee Tools at Lowes stores.

In a way, it does make a lot of sense. After all, the company who owns Milwaukee Tools, Techtronic Inc (TTI), is also the manufacturer of Home Depot's popular store brand power tools, Ryobi and Ridgid. They also make a lot of Craftsman-brand power tools, Dirt Devil/Hoover vacuum cleaners and a few other brands of consumer home goods.


........So where does it say anything about Lowe's "losing the right" to sell Milwaukee?

OP obviously made some unsubstantiated assumptions regarding the content of the article; particularly titling his link "Milwaukee dumps Lowe's" when the article itself makes no such claim.

I don't know. I tend to think the guy who assumes you can't do great work with a cheapo black and decker tool is probably more a tool collector than anything.

no one said anything about the quality of work from said tools, but if you ever really used em, they wouldn't last for shit.

I've seen many of my helpers Ryobi's and B&D's die in the middle of a job after only really using them for a few months.

Oh, and please god don't even think about accidentally dropping one of those fragile toys, I mean tools...
 
I do a lot of stuff with tools, still it makes no sense for me to go out and drop $500 on a tool when a $100 one will do just fine. Most of the contractor stuff is WAY overkill for a homeowner. You have a warranty that usually can be used. The contractor can't usually afford to take time off to go return a tool.

Also in any tool line up there are different tiers. Comparing a B&D entry level tool to a Makita is going to be an obvious skew.

I like B&D's sanders. Their cordless lawn tools have been great. Outside of that I have almost exclusively Craftsman at home. I do a lot of mechanical work and my wrenches and sockets are where my money is spent on tools that fit right and don't break. Esp when you are dealing with suspension / mounting components in the 36mm and 1 1/4"+ range.

It's funny to see some of my friend's garages full of shiny Snap-On/MAC and Makita tools that look unused and when things break they have a pro come out to fix it.
 
A fun story regarding Black and Decker quality:

A bunch of my family worked at a McCulloch chainsaw plant, the owner took great pride in making high quality tools, but wanted to retire, so he sold the company to Black and Decker. One of the first things they did was replace an all metal pump that was durable and reliable to one with a plastic washer that would wear out in time. Things just went down hill so fast that my family still uses "pre-B&D" chainsaws, but won't get a post B&D chainsaw. You never see them anymore because nobody wants one. B&D effectively killed the company.
 
I have to say that my B&D equipment are things of beauty. I have one repaired through the local refurb office and that is about it. I don't know when quality started slipping.

I bought my B&D tools in 1994.


Also, we have a bit of confusion here in Durham when you say Lowe's because we have the store and the theaters with the same name.

We have an old Milwaukee drill at work. It must be at least 20 years old. It still works, but weighs about 15 lbs. It seems to be heavier than our hammerdrill.

In 1980 I bought a B&D circular saw and a router. I still use them both though it's almost time to replace the saw. The bearing is getting noisy.
I am not too brand loyal. I buy what i think is the best tool for the job.
I own DeWalt, Makita, Porter Cable, Skil, Hitachi, Milwaukee and the red brand Sears sells, I don't recall the name, it was a gift.

Amen. However I disagree with the bolded it; shop around and search the classifieds for high quality used tools and you won't be disappointed.

I like mikta. All of the big power tools in my dad's workshop are used high end stuff: We have an old Parks band saw; the sucker is huge. We also have an old Delta three phase table saw. The radial arm saw is also three phase but I forget the brand. The quality of newer tools disturbs me because I'll have to buy this crap when I get my own place. (or look in the classifieds)
