Are there any laws that stipulate the number of minimum sick days

Just wondering because im on my death bed right now (or it could be the flu) but im sitting here at work because I only have 2 sick days for the year and no personal days. Anything short of death and i refuse to take my sick day.

there is some federal emergency medical leave act where you are supposed to be able to get up to 12 weeks off and still have a job. Not sure if having a head cold qualifies.

If you're salaried exempt (and yes, there is such a thing as salaried non-exempt), then there's nothing they can really do if you go past your alloted number of sick days. Granted, if you make it a habit I'm sure they'll factor it into a performance review or something, but for legitimate reasons a good boss should be OK.

No, the flu does not qualify as an emergency under the federal guidelines.

Here we have 2 categories... short term sick and long term. Perhaps your work has a long term sick plan which isn't stipulated in the other circulated / available documentation. Check with your HR dept?

2 days that sucks.

I get like 8 days a year, plus i get two floating holidays, plus vacation which is 8.25 hours a month at the moment.

yea 2 days does seem a bit short.

I get about 8 hours of sick and 10 hours of vacation (depending on hours worked) every month. I'm almost maxed my vacation hours at 300 but my sick hours are depleted.

I'm pretty sure it's zero.

but the Republicans are working on a plan to make it negative numbers; you will have to send money to your employer if you get sick. 😉

actually they are trying to make the legal work week 90 hours, so you'd make less overtime.

It's up to the company, even division or boss you work under. But I think there's a minimum sick and vacation time. In some companies you can accumulated SL and VL.
